    Half Off PBX!

Wow just got a notification. 50% off PBX. Orig $599. Now $299. I believe it to be based on the 55gal drum. PBC is based on a 30gal drum. Go to Pit Barrel Cooker.com. Enter "USAPBX" in the promo code at check out. It matters not if you are military or First Responder.

    wow.....
this might sound silly, but could the PBX is bigger, probably allowing for bigger cooks. But, could it also be used for smaller cooks? I am sure it is, but is there any type of trade off (using of charcoal, any overkill etc.) Is it to big for me, a new smoker?

THat is a pretty darn good deal!

It just takes more fuel to get it going and maintain. But it runs the same as the 30-Gallon rig.

Spinaker being as how the PBC runs hot, I would guess you could get a great low n slow with the bigger barrel n same amount of coals.

The barrel heats up easily it's the cold meat that brings the temps down. You can run a pbc with a partial basket and still generate enough heat to get a good cook

They've been running that for awhile now.
It's intended for Military, First responders, etc. and their families.

I suppose with the near death of landlines, private branch exchanges have died off too. I’m glad the PBX acronym has been resurrected in the name of food-dom.

I’d rather have the $300 than a cooker that does the same thing as what I already have!

Obviously, you’re not fully immersed in the MCS experience.

That’s a good price. Problem for me is I already have the original and while I can see a value with the X when using the grate, hanging meat is a different issue. I saw a video of the owner (Noah) at a show hang 12 racks of ribs in the original. Of memory serves Jerod Broussard managed to hang 5 briskets in his.

Jerod super-customized his PBC to handle the moisture put out with a 5-brisket load. His inventiveness as he would make another clever mod to the PBC was a continual source of enjoyment and wonder for me. He sold that PBC, finally, to a fellow Pit member. I always said "If that PBC could only talk, what stories it could tell."

I would love to pick one up at that price, but since I'm not military/first responder/etc, will have to pass... not sure where I would put it either! I think something else like the offset would have to go.

jfmorris I called Pit Barrel Company. Military and First Responder has nothing to do with this sale. It is in conjunction with FedEx and includes free shipping. I talked to Amber at PBC. She said as long as you put the code USAPBX in the promo spot at checkout, it is good for anyone. I actually loaded a cart and could have checked out at $315 n change. LIMITED TIME ONLY

Good to hear. Wish I was in the position to order one, but sadly can’t justify another cooker today….

I'm with jfmorris I can't justify this. Plus I like all my working organs where they're supposed to be and functional.

I bought one at because of the sale price.

Only bought because it is a good deal..
After weeks of deciding to keep or gift, Finally cooked a 10 pound pork belly cut in to 3 chunks.
One salt and pepper- really good
One Hot for peacher peach rub (Birthday gift)- was good
          One the gospel rub- good
BB charcoal and cherry hickory wood chunks Click image for larger version

Still up in the air to keep.
Started lit coals in center and there was noticeable difference in temps from inner grate to outer .
          Sorry only pic.
          Pork belly was excellent .

I have 2 PBXs (long story). They run just a little hotter than my PBC (between 280-300). Great cookers.
I am planning on a whole/split or spatchcocked turkey Tuesday.

You cannot beat a spatchcocked Turkey on the PB@. I learned just about everything I know from fzxdoc concerning the PBC
