Royal Oak 10-lb Charcoal Briquets

The Royal Oak Super Size leaves a lot of ash. They are good for slow and low snake method at low temperatures but leave powdery ghost briquette shaped ashes behind that don’t fall through the grate. Despite this, I use them because they work somehow and I picked them up for 37 cents a pound. Kingsford and B&B cost over $1 a pound around here so I accept the challenges of using RO Super Size.
The bag does not say 100% hardwood.
Here is a photo comparing RO Original on the left and RO Super Size on the right. These are cold ashes that remained after a burn test. Ghost briquettes made of powdery ash. Touch them and they disappear. The question is, will ashes that don’t fall through the grate choke the fire?

I've used just one bag of RO, the "Chef Select" if memory serves. They burned SO much faster than either Kingsford or, especially, B&B. So they might be cheaper per pound, but not so sure if they're cheaper per unit energy you get...
