Book on sale: Mastering Knife Skills: The Essential Guide to the Most Important Tools in Your Kitchen

I have no idea if this book is a good one ... but it's on sale ($1.99) and it might be of interest to other knife knuts () in the Pit:

That's fine, if you have a Kindle...

It's also fine even if you don't own a Kindle. You don't need a physical Kindle if you simply install the (free) kindle app on your phone, pad, or computer.

You actually don't even need to install anything to read a Kindle book as you can just open it using the Kindle Cloud Reader and it opens up in your browser.

Based on the preview/sample, it has a lot of good information.

I bought it. After a quick browsing, I found it quite extensive in coverage. The history of knives, the manufacturing of knives, the types and purpose, sharpening, maintaining, storage, and on. That's the first half. The second half is cutting/slicing/using techniques, with detailed pictures of grips and slicing/cutting approaches for a wide range of vegetables and meats.

At first, I thought he was Western/European centric, but later on he goes into Japanese knives starting with their foundation in katana swords and what makes them stand out. Also has an extensive coverage of cutting boards, how they are made, etc.

I will definitely go back and do a thorough read. Lots and lots of info and pictures to match.

For $2.00, I think this is well worth it even for those who are pretty proficient and knowledgeable.

Wow, thanks for this concise summary, very helpful! I need all the help I can get on my knife "skills" (using the term VERY loosely indeed).

I have credits, so it was free. So far, a good read.

if it doesn’t talk about how to chop chocolate it’s no use to me

I ordered it, too. Even if there’s nothing new about cutting, I’m sure I’ll get $2 worth of entertainment just from reading the history of knives. But it looks more comprehensive than that.

And the little tag says this book is the number one best seller in the professional cooking category. That has to count for something!

It is the same price on Kobo and I managed to use my points so no cost, can't wait to give it a read

Based on reading the first three chapters on the history, different parts, and types of knives, I have easily got my $2 of value already. Great book.
