Finally, After At Least A Year: HEB Has Pork Butts On Sale

I haven't seen pork butts at HEB for under $2/lb in over a year or so. Today they are $0.97/lb; limit 2 with $20 purchase. With their buying power I'm not sure why HEB hasn't had them on sale before, especially when lots of other chains nationwide have done so. I'll be dividing my shopping list into $20 increments in order to stock the deep freeze - I'm processing some deer and will be making sausage plus I need some pulled pork.

That’s is really odd. They have been on sale for that price regularly at both Albertson’s and Kroger here in Dallas. Of course, it could be due to the lack of grocery story competition. The word here in Dallas is that HEB has not moved into Dallas because the grocery sore options are numerous.

Now that is a $20 plan--Take note one and all. Each one in a household, with their own shopping cart, in line, makes a whole lot of butts. Don't buy more than the freezer can hold or there will be a lot of cooking going on.

HEB is a mile up the road from my office, I've been twice so far in between appointments and I'll go at the end of the day. I'll have six when I'm done, should be plenty for sausage and BBQ. The two I just bought were over 11.5 lbs each.

Even at ~50 MPG in the Prius, it's still not a great price for butt :-( ... BUTT, I did get one at Sam's for $1.98/lb :-)

      Peace,
      Nunyaz

        Oh brother...

I have to pick the one of the businesses that you have there...

Market Basket is very competitive in this market. We have to drive about 15 miles to get to the nearest one. The new one is about 5 miles away. It's going to be PACKED when it opens.

Allon Most of the Market Baskets `here are in small towns which are underserved with grocery stores. A lot of them are the only grocery store in town. There’s one in Nederland where my Mom lives, but I go to a nearby Walmart or H‑E‑B instead. I only go to that Market Basket if I need 1 or 2 items and want to avoid the crowds elsewhere.

The really small towns in East Texas have a Brookshire Bros. I think their market is basically any town that the other grocery stores think are too small of a market. Brookshire Bros. version of hamburger helper is called Panburger Partner, always thought that was funny.

They actually did have them on sale for $0.97/lb the week of Thanksgiving, but I think it was lost in all of the turkey. (I picked one up! A dual pack even!)

But you are absolutely right, prior to November it had been at least a year since they were sub $1/lb.

I am slated to go to HEB tomorrow.....can I resist picking one up???? I don't think I can.....

I looked at my local HEB before I flew out to Virginia for Thanksgiving week, alas no sale at that time.

The dual packs are some serious MEAT!

I've bought those before, it is a lot of meat in one pack.

Hell of a deal for $21.00!

There's probably a regional component to their pricing as well. Here in the semi-sticks they aren't making that offer on the pork butt. This week's flyer "deal" is select grade chuck at $3.97 per................hold your excitement folks........

Yeah, similar here: we have a big HEB and a couple of the small HEB Pantries. They often have different sales. Kind of annoying to go to one location looking for a sale item only to find out you're at the wrong store.

I just posted my pulled pork on “Show Us…” from our new HEB in Plano—77¢ a pound!

So this weeks flyer came out and they must have needed to keep selling butts.........but, not at that below $1 price. Our ad is for $1.49 per lb., no limit mentioned in the ad. For around here where there's not much competition that's pretty good pricing in these times. Select grade Ribeye roast is also on ad for $9.99 per lb., meh.
