Interesting. My main question, since they moved to a single bottom vent rather than the 3 around the bottom like on the WSM, is whether that little ash bucket and vent mechanism on the bottom has some sort of ash sweeps to clear the bottom vent. If it doesn't, then I would worry about the intake vent clogging during a long cook...

I had an old Brinkman that had no vents to adjust, but it sure made some good pulled pork. The air that came into the fire was the same all the way round the fire bowl.

LA Pork Butt a Brinkman water smoker was my first smoker around 1990. No vents whatsoever on the bottom, as the charcoal pan just sat down there in the open bottom. That was before my dad passed on the old offset to me.

A buddy got a used one for $25 and said it wouldn’t hold a steady temperature. He’s the kind of guy that would rather fiddle with something for days than pay for quality, so I assume he did plenty of testing. Other than the vent, his looked like a cheap WSM clone.

My son got a similar one of these free using airline miles as his first smoker 3 years ago. Agree, cheap, hard to regulate and hold temps, cleaning was an issue, etc. He sold it and bought a Weber Performer with all SnS accessories, and he loves his kettle. But this experience turned him totally away from a quality WSM.

I’ve never used one, but it’s probably the best smoker you could get for $80.

Watched the video, and it appears to be safe to cook with fire and hot coals on a wooden deck.
