Kroger Boston Butts 99 cents per pound 9/7 through 9/13

My local Kroger sales flyer has 99 cent per pound bone-in "natural" Boston butts starting today, through next Tuesday. Check your local Kroger sales flyer, and go stock up if you can!

My deep freeze is crammed full, but I've got a pickup order with 2 butts scheduled for this afternoon. My son in law is heading over to buy 8 this morning to stock his deep freeze. I've got too much brisket, prime rib and other beef to fit more than 2 in mine!

This will be my first time letting someone else pick out meat for me, but after the past week or so, I am not quite ready to get back in the stores. A butt is probably about as safe as you can probably get on letting some random stock clerk pick out a couple for you.

EDIT: My son in law went, and there was a limit of two per customer. He took two to the car, then went back in and got two more, for a total of 4 at the sale price.

jfmorris Publix meat department has been getting worse and worse here for that last few years. Very depressing.

Our Publix just took out the meat counter. Everything is now pre-packaged. It is the most convenient for me, but I find myself going to either Food Lion or Kroger more often now.

I like Publix a lot, but their meat is more expensive. But it does seem to be higher quality, and there is always at least one butcher available. The main thing I go to Publix for is their fried chicken. It's stellar.

I've lost count of how many of these cheap butts I have stashed in the chest freezer. But there is always room for a couple more.

Haha. I went yesterday and dug all the way to the bottom of the freezer, just sure I would find a butt or two in there, and was shocked when I had none! I usually get 8 or so at a time when on sale like this, but just don't have room for more than 2 this go around.

Kroger in Beaumont, Tx lists them for $1.99/lb

I'll have to check out our local Harris Teeter. They usually run the exact same sale.

Mariano’s (Chicago Kroger) doesn’t really honor these regular Kroger deals. I saw that Mad Scientist Jeremy Yoder posted about $1.99/lb briskets a few weeks ago and I laughed because I knew we wouldn’t get anything like that.

At least some Mariano’s locations have a bar! I don’t think the Kroger takeover was a good thing for Mariano’s

The bar in our Mariano’s was a short lived experiment. We’re in a quiet Chicago suburb and it never caught on. I always thought it was little weird at our store and out of place.

We are in the West Suburbs. One near us does not have a bar. The other, in a nearby village, does and it’s popular. Loved Mariano’s when they took over the Dominick’s stores. Not a fan of how they’ve changed under Kroger.

Kroger owns Pick n' Save around here and the deals from down south never seen to happen around here, at least not at the same time as you. I will say that I have been known to do the same thing your SIL did, or at least pick up a few more the next time I go.

I had to go into Kroger in person today, masked up, to pickup some medicine, and detoured past the meat. The butts were all gone! Hopefully they restock before the sale is over, but glad I got mine yesterday.

It's funny, sometimes Kroger will have these ridiculous sales where they appear to be getting rid of a few butts, briskets, etc. Then when those are all gone a couple of days later, the display case is once again filled up with more of the same stuff, still on sale. And it's not even very close to the sell by date. Then they will go right back to selling $6.99 brisket and $3.99 butts.

Here in Charlotte NC, we don't have Kroger, but we do have Harris Teeter, which is owned by Kroger. They often have similar specials that echo Kroger, but right now there's no $0.99 pork butt.

I find Food Lion often has the best meat specials around here, and they regularly have Pork Butt at $0.99 (limit 2). Usually once about every 5-6 weeks, then I stock up. I will cube it for sausage grinding, then freeze it for later. Sometimes I will slice off a good slab, and make buckboard bacon.

When I was last there, I was surprised to see Pork Belly on sale for $4.99/lb. Actually I was surprised to see Pork Belly at all, on sale or not. I haven't seen it anywhere around here for less than $7/lb. and already sliced for meals, which is ridiculous. So I brought home a 5 1/2-lb package. It's Swift brand, very nicely trimmed, skin removed. It's currently in my fridge, turning into bacon.

Our Kroger in Beaumont now has them for $0.97, specifically a "Pork Steak Ready Shoulder Butt"

Not sure if it is worth it to drive 25 miles to get it though.

Yeah the ad here too used that terminology. The pork is in a cryovac that says something like "Natural" pork, and it is not injected and has no added saline from what I can tell, which is a good thing.

With a limit of 2 per purchase (nothing keeps you from putting those in the car and heading back in) only you can decide if it is worth it. Personally I would not drive 25 miles either unless I knew it was in stock, or if I did a pickup order so I knew they pulled them for me.
