    Kroger $1.99 brisket starting tomorrow

The weekly flyer for my Kroger here in zip code 35802 shows that starting tomorrow, they will have USDA choice brisket on sale for $1.99 a pound.

At that price, I am tempted to buy two - one to cut down to point/flat/flat for 3 future cooks or pastrami adventures, and a second one simply for grinding into hamburger, along with fat trimming I've saved in the deep freeze from other brisket and rib cooks. $1.99 is cheap for beef right now, and I am doing my best to stock the deep freeze... Of course, I have two briskets in there already, but a 3rd or 4th won't hurt, right? And 10 to 15 pounds of ground beef would be nice to have too.

I thought I was doing well when I scooped a nice one up for $2.99/lb last week. I was passing through the meat department, just minding my own business when it jumped into my cart, along with a couple of $0.99/lb butts.

I didn't "need" any of the above, but it's always good to add depth to your freezer roster on the cheap.

If you have a grinder, $2.99/lb is still a good price for ground beef

Can't really pass up $1.99 brisket, even if it is Choice, right?

Nope! And I’ve had some nice choice briskets too.

On that note the sirloin caps at Costco are choice and they are still very good. I've had a few prime ones but for some reason they trimmed the fat cap off those.

Yes, on the choice brisky. I picked up a twofer deal on shoulder. One was 21 lb n the other was 18. Sounds to me like $1.35 lb

What was that? A whole bone in pork shoulder? Never saw a Boston butt that was 18 or 21 pounds. Most top out around 10-12.

Just said shoulder. Maybe it is those they put together.

Usually that big it's two packaged together. Guy who owned the grocery store where I used to live posted on Facebook that he was selling butts for .99 lb. I was on vacation and told him to set 2 aside for me. When I got back and picked them up I had 40 lbs of pork butt. 2 packages of 2 butts each. I took them, it wasn't like I wasn't going to use them sometime.

My local flyer had nothing about brisket, but I happened to be in there today and sure enough... came home with another one for $1.99/lb. Wife wasn't impressed, but I told her maybe she should stop asking me to pick up something at Kroger.

Haha. Well, my wife told me to stock the deep freeze now when I was telling her how beef prices were going to be going up. I just got a small 12 pounder today, but it was under $24, along with a pound or so of hatch chilis to roast.

I left the receipt laying on the kitchen counter so she could see that I saved about $75 off regular price (never mind that regular price is an absurd $6.99/lb for Choice).

            Got a 12# for $1.99. A $77 value for just $25.

No idea what we'll do with it, but sure that inspiration will eventually strike

Last one I got I separated point from flat, cut the flat in 2, and vacuum sealed 3 separate portions for future use. A 1/2 flat was enough to feed two of us for a couple of days, and I may pull the other half to make pastrami some time. And then use the point to make burnt ends for a party.

I also bought a 12 pounder for $24 today. It's in the fridge until I decide whether to split it or just drop it in the freezer whole. Or grind it for cheap hamburger meat even.

Will be running to King Soopers aka Kroger in Colorado in the morning to stock the fridge and freezer.

Oh man in scoured the local PDX Kroger websites and couldn't find it. They had the $1.50 pork shoulders, but non in stock.

Costco was 4.50 for prime brisket... Oh man
