Yes sports fans, Walmart’s Expert Grill charcoal fired pizza oven is now marked down to $97. It’s not making me regret my Roccbox purchase, but if you just want to dip your toe in the pizza oven pool it appears to be a perfectly viable option. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Expert-Gr...0?athbdg=L1300

Hey Sid, do you have the wood burning attachment for your Roccbox? I'm thinking about getting it.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
People seem to like that in the reviews. I think if I end up with a pizza oven it will likely be one of the wood pellet or gas ones. If I want charcoal, I got that covered about 3 different ways already...

I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins, steak and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds.
My outdoor kitchen has a Lone Star Grillz Adjustable and it is wonderful. There also is a Pit Boss 5 Burner Ultimate Griddle and a Pit Boss Copperhead pellet grill.
There is an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.

I am intrigued by the BakerStone pizza oven. It has stone top, bottom, sides and back and sits on a grill, charcoal or gas. I've been emailing with Chris at Lone Star Grillz about whether one of these would work on the Adjustable I have on order and he thinks it would. He hadn't seen these before and definitely wants a report back if I get one. I had said I was deciding to forego the full size wood burning pizza oven to do as much of it as I can on the Adjustable and he thinks I'll be fine. He also says his full size oven takes two hours to get to cooking temp while this should be ready to rock and roll in a half hour or less.
Has anyone seen or tried one of these or a similar different brand?

I went to my local Wal-Mart, and it was marked down to $137. I had the clerk do a price check, and it was the same.
I then went into haggle mode and pointed out that as of this morning it was $97 online. He called his boss and found out that if it was offered online with in-store pickup, it was, in fact, $97. Five minutes later it was in the trunk of my car.
Thanks for the tip, Sid.

Top heat is a must for great pizza. I tried that grill add on pizza oven and personally thought it was worthless. Couldn't get sufficient top heat no matter how i pre heated and how long. Finally just got rid of it. For a $97 dollar pizza oven you will get exactly what you paid for.

I admit I'm a pizza snob and always look for perfection in taste and appearance. I have looked into many outdoor pizza ovens but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I don't remember the brand, i believe it had side stones. The only open heat entry area was a slot in the rear. I believe that was there to attempt to get temperature to the upper stone, but it wasn't sufficient at all. The heat just came from conduction from the bottom stone being on top of the grill.

This thing would be a big, fat, NOPE from me.
I worked in the food rackets for 22 years before I ran screaming from it, with 7 years in baking/pastry.
Also I've been getting better pizza from my home oven since the early 90s than you could get out of this thing.
That said, I did score an Ooni from a good friend (he's a food blogger/writer, was a ATK/CI tester/editor for 9 years and has bylines on serious eats), before they gave him a Karu 16 multifuel one for testing. (oh, the benefits of having a popular blog and 10s of Ks of Instagram followers).
Anyway, the propane Ooni Koda that he sold to me at an awesome price, is just that...awesome. I love it, have made incredible pizzas with it, and the only reason I would think to get something else, mult-fuel or not, would be to tinker.
A true Neopolitan-style pizza that requires that crazy-high heat (900 degrees+), cooks so damn fast that there really isn't any benefit from cooking with wood vs. gas.

Drove over to our vacation house, and stopped in WalMart for a couple other things we needed. They had one of these left, so for 97 bucks I picked it up. I watched a couple of the videos linked in the thread, and the only concern I have is that I make a pretty thick crust. But I'll try it out, and see if when I get the patio and kitchen built, if I want to include a better pizza oven.
