I was tempted, but just can't right now.
Really wish I had gotten an upgrade model when I bought my premium last spring. Click image for larger version

That’s the Johnny Cash kettle. It’s got the ring of fire inside. Plus a deflector plate!

How does it run with the deflector plate in place? Can you really smoke across the entire grate surface?

          #6
Wow, I didn’t think Weber was selling those in the U.S. anymore. It’s not listed on their website. Seems that, with the deflector plate, it would compete with the Summit Kamado.

I didn’t know that they sold one with a deflector plate anywhere, until just last week, and I still haven’t found evidence that they sold it in the USA.

I remember it being introduced, and it left the website fairly quickly. I feel like somewhere I feel like I had read that the hinge on this one does not really allow for a great lid seal, so maybe they pulled it?

Since Weber hasn't really pushed this particular model in the US it's conceivable that they don't think there's sufficient market (further commentary relevance) and are using Costco as a "clearing house" since they don't often offer genuine sales on their equipment that sells well............at least not in the past recent history.

The marketing guy in me thinks he's seeing a lot of outdoor cooker stuff being offered "on sale" earlier in the season than would normally be expected. There is a possibility that the Covid driven spike in sales, coupled with buyer insecurity as real inflation impacts are taking deeper root, has put the brakes on sales momentum. In other retail news there are stories of higher than normal inventories of many different types of consumer goods, the result of over stocking due to shipping issues last year, and the possibility of recession causing some buyers to hold fire in "watch and see" mode. For fun, I track used equipment on sites like FB Marketplace, and listings, if they get posted as sold, seem to be taking a bit longer to happen than they have over the past couple years when demand was high. It will be interesting to see what the fabrication lead times for the boutique builders (LSG, Millscale, etc) start looking at as they work through their current bookings. I suspect that a patient buyer, whether a commodity cooker like Weber, or a custom build, who can wait for a few months to satisfy his/her itch, will find some real deals available.

We're enjoying some fair to middlin' meat prices right now due to herd culling which is keeping the supply side of the equation full right now, but come early next year when the ranchers are done culling, supplies are going to drop.........current projections in the industry are around 20%......hang on to your britches. Protein prices spike and a lot of marginal buyers won't have a need for outdoor cookers. We live in interesting times..................

I too have seen them at my Costco. I looked it up on the Costco website and the reviews weren’t too stellar. Many complaints about the hinge and I remember seeing it for around $300 or so I took a pass. It’s listed for $330 on their website so that looks like a good deal.

The problem with the hinge is that the lid floats over the bottom of the grill instead of nestling in tightly. I saw a You Tube video in which reversing the springs in the hinge assembly fixes the problem immediately. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mez6LUjuu8o

I'd love to have a hinge on my 22" Weber Premium lid. Finding that inside-the-lid hook when the grill is hot and I'm in a hurry doesn't seem to be my strong suit. I'm not interested in a DIY hinge either. I may get a Master Touch with a hinged lid like that some day just for that single convenience and give my Weber Premium 22" kettle away.

The biggest problem is that my Weber Premium 22" kettle only cost me $60, new and assembled in a Walmart closeout a couple of years ago. That price is tough to beat, even without a lid cradle or hinge.

DTro , on that model, you can remove the lid from the hinge by sliding a knob.

I know, DTro , who would have thought? If I hadn't seen the video I wouldn't have known either.

I'm just gonna say I hated mine. Not only did the ash sweep not work, but it was a pain to take take the ash bucket/bin on and off with out bending the shit out of it.

Mine does not have the deflector or hinge. That being said, I enjoy cooking on it. The ash catcher alone is a real plus. And then the tools/toys you get to spend more $$ on.

I suppose a hinged lid would have it's fans. But, when the lid is off, I want unobstructed access to the cooking area from the entire 360Ëš of the kettle rim, depending on what I'm cooking. So, I just remove the lid and set it aside to enable that access., a habit that has served me for decades YMMV
