No I can’t, I pout when it rains and one of my Weber kettles are not covered,

Wonder what it would cost to restore that baby?

Yeah, that could be a horrible, or incredibly rewarding project. I’ve never wanted one until now. Lol

My guess is under $1000. There’s a topic on the KK forums where a guy bought a KK that someone had beaten with a hammer, and he brought it back. My concern is the specialized knowledge needed. I would doubt the actual kamado is cracked, that’s 2” of hardened ceramic that would probably survive a missile strike.

My concern is shipping it. That thing weighs like 700 lbs.

My goodness. That tempts me toward a road trip.

That thing is beat to hell. I doubt it’s cracked; that’s 2” of hardened ceramic, so the basic structure is probably fine. It certainly can be resurrected, but honestly I’d probably rather pay the extra money for a new one.

Here is the link to the hammered Komodo Kamado, it’s a great read.

Hello everyone. First post om this forum. Usually float around the bbq brethren as I am a competition cook but ran into an unusual experience. Boss had a friend that had a 23" KK sitting in the garage that was beat up pretty bad with a hammer. I got pictures of it and went to see it in person and...

Is there an update? I saw he ended up waiting for new tiles from Dennis and may be forced to sell?!

There are 12 pages, when I first saw the topic I didn’t see the other 11. Did you get to the end?

I wish I had not just learned the KKs roll with their wheels beautifully.

My wife asked that super dangerous question. Crap. It is only about 1.5 hours drive from me.

So now I hit up Dennis over Whatsapp to ask about repair costs, questions he would have for the owner, whether this even works well rolling it up and down a driveway and over a garage lip, and the suggestion I'd have to hire pro movers as I don't have a truck. I'd have to sell both the MB560 and Akorn to free up space, as I have no deck in the backyard.

Seems like a realllllly long shot, but might as well gather some information to see if others have better ideas.

You’re going to sell the Mercedes? Wow!

          Oh, the Masterbuilt.

Dennis said the grill is garbage and has had years of abuse. The jacket that holds the tiles on is compromised due to it being filled with water (snow, rain) multiple times and frozen. The grill has expanded and thus caused the damage. It sounds like a lost cause to me so I will sadly pass.

Yeah, Richard Chrz yeah Dennis is the owner of Komado Kamado and fairly legendary for his customer service even based in Indonesia. If he said it was fixable at a reasonable cost, I probably would have bought it.

Good phone call. Interesting, he knew that unit specifically!

Mosca yeah I sent him the listing pics and he immediately Knew the issues. He asked for the owner phone number presumably to tell them the unit is destroyed, so maybe he will reach out as I sent over the owner's name. He wasn't able to view the listing for some reason.
