edit: 5/6/2022, the sale is over... Just saw this in my email. 50% off today only. I picked one up years ago on a not-as-good sale as a toy. I'm surprised how much I use it. Must have if you have a griddle...
Is this gun truly any better than any of the other cheap guns out there? I have one I picked up on W00T years ago and it works fine, but if this one has significant benefits, I might consider it. Super duper fast readout? Mine takes about a second or two, it's not bad. I don't know about accuracy, does anyone have an information on comparing accuracy between cheapo Chinese ones and this one?
I'm just wondering - I don't think I need it, but if anyone can vouch for a significant improvement over the normal cheap ones out there, I might spring for it.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

I would trust ThermoWorks' name & longevity compared to a cheapy. If you have a cheapy though and you trust it, probably no immediate need to upgrade...except this price is great. Everyone needs one of these, they ain't just fer cookin'!
I check for cold spots in my wall, ceilings and around windows in winter. Foreheads for sick kids (although I wouldn't necessarily trust that but it's fun) Andrrr
They’re also good for checking your a/c or heating temps coming out of the vents. I used it that way a few times. Found out my a/c wasn’t cooling as well as it should. They’re also fun to point at the police……

I bought one of these for 40% off last fall and it's been on sale for that a few times since. This is the first time I've seen 50%. Seems to work fine, but it's the only one I've ever owned so I can't really make any comparisons. Honestly haven't used it all that much, but it's fun.

I think I paid around $80 for my Blue Point IR 8-9 years ago. The battery terminals corroded off. So it was time for a replacement anyway.
Thanks for the link IdahoJim I think. 😁
I’ve had cheap one’s and a few year ago I splurged and bought a Fluke one, they all read just the same. The Fluke one has a flexable cover that may offer a little protection if I dropped it, but that wasn’t worth the 5 times the price of the cheap ones.
