My name is Josh, not Joey (surprise), and I reside in Central Ohio. I have been grilling since I could drive, and smoking for around 15 years. Over the past couple of years I have gotten more into just cooking, and really enjoy sous vide and the flat top. I find myself experimenting with different foods and new ways of cooking as an outlet to work stress. I use every piece of equipment I own regularly, with the exception of the electric smoker. That only gets brought out on occasion to make jerky.
My favorite beverage is bourbon. I typically have at least 8-10 bottles open at any given time. While I have favorites, I enjoy sampling new and different varieties.
I seem to remember getting irritated with Kingsford Professional last summer. I happened to look at my charcoal pile in the garage last night and I had no Kingsford which supports my recollection. I'll probably pass on this unless someone convinces me otherwise.

Panhead John I am pretty sure I am remembering KP, but it may have been a different variety of Kingsford that irritated me last year.

I’ve stocked up for years when it goes on sale at Costco, burns longer and less ash than KBB. However, I agree with Panhead John ( that sounds weird, doesn’t it?) that B&B is my go to now at about the same price as the KP on sale.

My current cookers include a Shirley Fabrication 24x36 patio model; Weber Performer with the Slow-n-Sear 2.0 & Drip & Griddle; Pit Boss Series 2 propane smoker & SnS Travel Kettle.
Straight Whiskey: I'm a bourbon guy. All time favorite Pappy Van Winkle 12 year. Standard go to Blantons
Blended Whiskey: James Oliver American Whiskey
I also enjoy an occasional cigar
I picked some up while visiting my daughter & son-in-law a few weeks back at the Costco in NH. I have not been able to find B&B any place in the Northeast.

Weber Kettle 22; Broil King Signet; OKJ Bronco
Kingsford Pro also available for that price in Chicago area.
I have to try some of those other brands, particularly on longer cooks. I've been using KP for the most part the last few years and may not know what I'm missing.

Murdy You might have heard me say this already, but a while back I was doing a brisket cook and was trying B&B for the first time. As soon as I lit it, I noticed less dirty smoke and a more pleasant smell than my KBB. On my Bronco, full basket, I smoked the brisket for 9 hours before done. When I removed the brisket I probably had at least 2 more hours of coals left. Been a fan ever since. Joey877 said the same about Kingsford. 👆Last edited by Panhead John; April 7, 2022, 12:25 PM.

Yes I saw this too the last time I was at Costco and I picked it up. While I like it I don’t love it and will try the B&B the next time I’m at ace. I used KBB for the first time in the fall and winter and I liked that as well.

I use KP all the time, just went and got 6 bags (the limit). I agree B&B (which sells for about 50 cent more a bag at Academy) burns a little cleaner and are a little bigger so last longer. Other than that I dare you in a blind taste test to tell me the difference.
Besides, I'm a cheap bastard and go for the cheapest brand I can find. I also resemble this bastard.....

Good deal. Dang I just picked up a twin 20lb pack of blue bag for $29.xx (eek!) at the local Farm & Fleet store this morning. I was out, and planned to cook ribs today, and they had it, so...
Just searched and my local Sam's has the twin 20's of KBB for $18.48, and Home Depot has 'em for $17.88. sigh....

You're going to need them again eventually. Stock up!
That's what I tell myself every time I stroll through the grill and smoker section at Academy and they happen to have the B&B oak briquettes in stock for $8.99.Last edited by Steve R.; April 7, 2022, 03:04 PM.
