    $2.99 Brisket

If you are in Iowa, or any other state with either of these two chains, if you haven't already seen it, Fareway has brisket on sale for $2.99 on Friday, April 1st. HyVee is an also ran with brisket on sale for $3.79 on the same day. Unless this is just an April Fools joke.

My only problem is I was going to smoke a brisket on Friday, and neither store is selling them right now, holding them all back for the sale. Plus, they'll be 2 bucks a lb cheaper on Friday. I'll be at the door at 8 am, with the smoker heating up at home, and I'll do a version of hot and fast. Won't get much brining done.

Bring some salt with you to the store! I believe they call that "tailgate prepping"!

Yeah, if it weren't for all the really angry customers, I'd think it was a joke. But around here, unless you to to some of the specialty butcher shops (or buy your meat directly, like I generally do, except steers have a limited number of briskets) Fareway is the go to for meat.

Bogy Maybe you'll find one of those new and improved plant based briskets. I hear they take less time to prep..

Bkhuna In Iowa? Not likely! Here plant based means they fed the cow grass and then finished it on corn!

If I may inject, I may not need to brine.

I think I read that HyVee is planning to open another 21 stores, in 3 or 4 states. I know my sister was happy a few years ago when they came to Minneapolis and she could shop there instead of Cub.

Yep Bogy it's hard to keep track of them all. Kroger buying places up and changing the names, ALDI, Piggly Wiggly, Festival Foods, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, COSTCO, Walmart, Target, some locals have hung in there too. Coiuld run yourself ragged tryinhg to get the best deals on what you want and need.

You guys in Michigan are stuck with Meijer's. Don't worry, HyVee is coming your way.

HyVee in South Dakota has brisket advertised for $3.77/pound and New York Strip for $5.98. Good prices.

The NY strips are $5.98 for 8oz. I hate when I see that and don’t notice it right away, but I should probably realize it’s not pre Covid and probably won’t see that kind of pricing per lb ever again. Huge Hy-Vee fan, and will definitely be picking up some spares at $1.99. Thanks for the heads up.

Missed that the NY strip was only for 8 oz. Should have read the fine print.

They do that more and more, price it out per steak or chop, or 8oz etc. Lowers the sticker shock, but I always have to remember to look for the fine print.

Our local HEB is selling big old select briskets for $3.05/pound, so about the same deal. To be honest you can have them. They are tough and dry in the flat, you end up with some of the point meat decent but not worth all the effort.

These are Choice, and I've never had any complaints. Smoked one for family last summer after my mom's memorial service, and my semi-vegetarian sister and her family came back for thirds.

I got mine this morning. Wife and kids decided last night they wanted to do the Pizza Ranch buffet tonite, which took some pressure off me. They're in the freezer for some other day.

Costco at the north side of Cincy (275&Fiels Ertle) had about 10 medium size prime brisky for $3.99. I only got one.
Kim cringes when ever I go to Costco for other than gasoline. Thought it was a good not great deal. Otherwise I would have posted.

Beef and pork prices are improving, but if you see any deals on chicken or turkey I'd grab it. Along with beef and pork Iowa is a top producer of poultry and eggs. Migrating birds have infected flocks here with bird flu. Millions of birds have been destroyed.
