Some of you know that the northwest corner of Iowa has been hard hit with flooding this year. Among those flooded is Spencer, about 12 miles south of my house. My wife went back to our house last Monday, I didn't make it until Wednesday, due to meetings. She told me there was something going on in the Hy-Vee parking lot and we should go participate. So yesterday, late in the afternoon we made a trip down to Spencer. The water has receded so that most of the roads in and around Spencer are open. Most, but we won't be traveling out normal route between houses until they rebuild a bridge. All the piles of belongings along the streets is heartbreaking.
Anyway, in the Hy-Vee (large midwestern supermarket chain) parking lot was host to representatives of Operation BBQ Relief. They were out of food for the day, so just one of them was their at the time keeping an eye on the smokers with today's butts. I thanked him and said that through AR I supported them. They had served 2500 yesterday. My wife and I went back today about 12:45 and the tote board was up to 5000, and they'll be there for 2 more days. I added a little more to the contributions box and once again thanked them for what they were doing.
Last night when no one but Jeff was there I took a couple of pictures. BTW, lunch was very good.
