When I deep clean my grates by removing them and hosing down with degreaser I will use a wire brush because it works the best. I thoroughly rinse them and scrub down with a sponge then inspect. I never use the wire brush just for a quick clean while in place. After making sticky ribs the residue is impossible to get off. I've tried aluminum foil and found it worthless. Always looking for a better way.

- If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
The only BRISTLE brush that has been near any of my grills in many years now is actually a welding brush my dad gave me. It has yet to shed a bristle, and if it did - they are way bigger bristles than a grill brush, and would be quite obvious!
These should be banned, as the folks who use them and causing gastro-intestinal injuries to themselves and others are NOT the observant folks here on the Pit.
I've had a spiral wound brush that my niece gave me more than 10 years old, with a single coil of stainless wire that has never ever shed anything yet, and while it does not clean quite as well as a bristle brush, between that and the welding brush, things stay clean enough in between deep cleanings of the grate using the hose.
The spiral brush my niece gave me more than 10 years ago is this 21-inch one, and it shows zero rust and little wear after hanging off the grill(s) all these years:
The Brushtech High with Quality 21" Double Helix Bristle Free BBQ Brush provides powerful, safe cleaning for your grill or kitchen tools. Durable, heat-resistant bristles ensure thorough grease removal and long-lasting performance. Order now for hassle-free maintenance and pristine results every time.

Camp Chef Woodwind
OK Joe Bronco
Weber Genesis
Ooni Karu
Weber Kettle
My goal is to eventually have at least one of every style of cooker….. I have work to do. Lol!
Thermometers:
ThermoWorks Thermapen MK4
ThermoWorks Thermapen ONE
ThermoWorks Thermopop
ThermoWorks RFX
ThermoWorks IRK-2 Infrared
Maverick XR-50
TempSpike Plus
Other Gear:
Megaforce 3000 Meat Grinder
Weston 7-pound sausage stuffer
Jerky Gun for making poppers. (Game changer!)
Amaz-N-Tube
Original SnS with drip n griddle
Weber Chimney
Fuels Used:
Splits/Chunks, whatever I can get. Usually B&B competition. Favorites are Cherry, Apple, Post Oak, and Hickory.
Pellets, Lumberjack.
Charcoal, whatever is on sale. Currently have a bunch of KBB. Will eventually try B&B. Use whatever lump is on sale in my Ooni.
Propane, Blue Rhino.
Rubs:
Usually make my own riff’s on Memphis Dust and BBBR. Also use Meathead’s commercial rubs and occasionally try something new. I like a couple from Tuffy Stone and Kinder’s. After several surgeries, I’m very sensitive to “spicy” stuff, so I need to be careful about heat levels.
I broke down awhile back and bought one of the Grill Rescue “brushes”. I’ve actually been very happy with it! It is a little less convenient since I need to fill something with water to dip the scrubber in, but the steam that it produces on hot grates really does an awesome job cleaning them!
