    Transparency

I have added this to the AmazingRibs.com Writer’s Styleguide. It applies to the info on the Free parts of the site, not the Pitmaster Club, but we encourage members to be transparent and try to adhere to these guidelines.

    AI And Internet Sources
Accuracy, transparency, and reliability of the human byline are the standards behind our writing. We research and check our facts thoroughly. Authors may use information from the internet and AI for perspective, but, information from them is to be treated as unvetted and must be verified. Under no circumstances is it permissible to quote from other sources without proper credit. The opinions and words in our articles are our own based on data and facts.

    Image Editing
It is a given that by framing a photograph and selecting what is in it and what is not in it, and by selecting lighting, depth of field, and shutter speed, photographers are altering reality. Beyond that modern tools allow photographers and artists to enhance and improve the appearance of images. Minor adjustments to photos are acceptable. These include cropping, dodging and burning, conversion to grayscale, contrast, and color adjustments. Major adjustments, including addition and deletion of elements must be noted in the caption.

Maybe Sports Illustrated and USA Today should immediately adopt your policies. Both have recently been caught with their hands in the AI cookie jar when it comes to certain articles.

Richard Chrz at both publications it was the real writers who complained. They wanted to know who these unknown authors were writing articles for their online editions. Apparently there is a company who provides AI content and articles to both companies and to a slew of others.

Given a minimal amount of time and medium amount of thought, people will surely use something meant to do good to do less than good.

Using AI is a lazy hack. Although it sounds sexy, there is no intelligence behind it, and that includes those who purport to create it.

AI is the person behind the cash register who cannot retrieve your change without the computer.

Meathead, I appreciate your commitment here. And I am always learning, altho concepts such as "dodging and burning" are beyond my ken. I am, presumably, not your target audience.

Dodging and burning is a term from the darkroom days of photography. It's the process of darkening areas and lightening other areas of a photographic print. The process, in general, was meant to achieve a more realistic print but also can be used to draw the viewer's eyes toward the subject of the photograph.

hoovarmin It is strange and deeply concerning. I hope my kids and grandkids know how to harness and use these new technologies. I certainly don’t.

Oak Smoke don't sweat it. Our grandkids AI overlords will run the technology for them.

I have spent my entire career in the fields of electrical and software engineering. I have extreme concern AI technologies could supplant a lot of good circuit board designers and programmers. The problem is, no human will understand or be able to edit the code generated by AI. We certainly can't understand how the AI rewrites itself.

I don't know where the AI is going, but I do agree with the concerns of Oak Smoke and jfmorris. I am also quite concerned with the rampant acceptance (as I see it) of frank disinformation and conspiracy theories, and would love to see focus on discerning between types of content, in schools, and everywhere. I am very happy Meathead keeps an eye on the content of this site. I wish it were so everywhere, but I will happily take it here.

Meathead, big kudos to you for taking a stand in favor of honesty and integrity! AI is so easily used to publish fake journalism and fraudulent communications. Yes, material that is made up, and not based in verifiable facts, is fraud even if created by a computer. I believe that any content that is processed in whole or part by AI, must be disclosed as such. Civilization cannot progress except by truth and accuracy.

I am a lawyer and I follow AI issues in the legal world. There have now been multiple cases of lawyers filling court briefs created by AI. They are being caught and prosecuted with discipline and loss of their license. The offending filings have included made up and false facts. And, more importantly, citations to laws and cases that are fake. In social media, fake stuff is commonplace. But fake junk should not be published by legitimate journalists, professionals and honest websites like Amazing Ribs.

Thank you again Meathead for taking a stand in favor of integrity and honesty!

AI is dangerous for a number of reasons and I think Deep Fakes are worse because today you really can't tell if what you are seeing and hearing is real or not. Believe it or not, my avatar is not my real picture.
