Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

I have no issues with FlameBoss at all. I have all of my Webers set up to take it. 18" 22" kettles 26" 18" WSM I have run it on my home built stick burner with good results. I have run it on my Bandera. I have run it on my pellet cookers to log the temps.
It's a good unit. The 200 is short 2 meat probes over the 300. Other than that they are the same. I dont use 3 meat probes all that much. I know lots of folks like to have more probes but I have way to many cables in my life already. lol
I'm an IOS user so we have had our app for awhile. Android app just launch last week I think. Even without the app the onlie interface is good. I use that more than the app BUT it is nice to have the controler be local on the app and not connected to the cloud.
The fact you can add it to as many cookers as you want for about 2.00 each is a big plus. Heck I set a jumbo joe up for it just cause:

Great post. how many probes have you gone through?

I have had no failed FlameBoss probes to date. I do keep spares. I mean it’s going to happen sometime. BTW. They are not waterproof. Keep that in mind.Last edited by Jon Solberg; November 27, 2017, 07:23 PM.

I can relate a longer term situation with the probes. When my Flame Boss 200 was a little over a year old, I discovered that I wasn't getting correct pit temperatures. Called Flame Boss, and they decided to send me a replacement probe, even though it was past the warranty. All I had to do was return the current one, reusing the packaging, and the return label they included.
A month later, the meat probe failed as well. Again, I called (talked to Terry in their Customer Service Department) and asked to buy a new one. They asked me to return that one, and they would send another, again at no cost to me. So, I got 2 new probes, and they got the old ones. Terry told me that they were researching occasional issues with the probes from the first release of the Flame Boss 200 (September 2015).
He also told me that the issue was the temperature, not at the probe, but along the cable where it enters the Kamado. He suggested that I place a small piece of foil at the edge of the grate when I was using the deflectors (i.e. smoking some meat) and run the cables over the foil. I did so, and now its been over a year and I have had no further difficulties with the probes.
A while later, I was having trouble getting the pit probe to register, and they replaced the entire FB200 unit, again at no cost. Terry told me the first generation of the FB200 had some issues, and when they found one, they just replaced it.
Subsequently, FB has released some new probes that have stainless steel coating, rather than the original coating. The original was easier to clean, the new ones take the heat a little better. Their commentary about the probes suggests that if the temperature is over 400, the original probes will probably fail quickly.
Assumption they make is that you are using the FB to smoke, not grill. The only place they have a heat issue is at the edges of the deflectors on a Kamado, where the heat from the charcoal would be concentrated.
That's what I know. I, too, love the Flame Boss, and use it regularly with very consistent results on my KJ Classic.
Best regards,
Jim
