I'm wondering if there is anyone running a Thermostatic controller on a stick burner? I have a new 36" Lang and think it might be the real deal to have something like this on it. So what do you all think about it?
Thanks
OB
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

As long as you don't expect any degree of hands off. You still have to load the logs regularly, no controller can do that for you. And you still need to maintain a small hot fire, so you can't overload the firebox expecting to get more runtime. Where a controller will help is the automatic fan stoking the coals as temps wane, but that only works to a point. But honestly, get yourself a remote thermometer with alarms, like the Maverick 732 or ThermoWorks Smoke, a $50 BBQ Dragon and a couple sets of rechargeable batteries and you'll get all the help you'll need. You still need to be there running things with a stickburner, there's no automatic for them. There's only gadgets to alert you to act.
OB One, I use a DigiQ-2 On both My Weber Kettle and My Oklhoma Joe Highland Offset Smoker! I certainly won't Equate the OK Joe with Your Lang! My Momma didn't Raise No Fool? While I use the Same Control with a Pit Viper Fan on the Weber, I have the Larger Pit Bull Fan on the OKJ! I am still learning but Todate I am pleased with the DigiQ-2 on the OKJ!

PBCDad, I have had the DidgiQ-2 for over Two Years! I purchased it slightly Used from a Fellow Pit Club Member who was going another directions? I have found the People @ BBQGURU.COM most informative and helpful! Prior to the Purchase of the DidgiQ-2 I about wore @Jerod Broussard's computer out asking him questions about the Auber Temp Control he favors! I hope this helps you! I have Posted some Pic's of the Didgiq-2 on my Weber Kettle with the S 'n S! Same Control as used on the OKJ Highland Offset different Fan!

The idea is interesting. I was also wondering if anyone has messed with a fan in a stick burner, so that the notion of even convection cooking could be attained, should you want your cook box dead even from left to right???
