    Wireless temp probes

    Meater vs Pulse------which is better?

My Meater 2 Plus stopped working within one year of purchase.

Am weighing the purchase of the new Pulse and would be interested in any opinions based on experience.

    Thanks in advance.

I only have the pulse and still getting to know it, I know a few meater owners who are looking for something else. The pulse is too new to see many users staying happy with it or looking for something else. Don't forget about the Thermoworks option or the Combustion options as well

I think the Pulse seems to be better than the Meater, in large part due to the app. It is the most expensive on the market, though. RFX would be my next choice. The Combustion seems good, but some folks have had what sounds like QC issues. Good customer service, though, with rapid, no-hassle replacement.

I have MEATER plus and have been using it for a year now. While I have mostly used it on low and slow and roasting, I would not say I had heavy use. I am guessing you already checked this, but sometimes like is the power on to the computer it gets overlooked when trouble shooting. The batteries in the MEATER block need to be changed periodically. I discover that when one of my probes quit working.

I am using the Thermoworks RFX. Done 5 cooks now. Temps are spot on. Works good on direct heat grilling. I was impressed with that capability. WiFi connectivity is easy and reliable. I love it so far.

I have the original MEATER Block (4-probe). It was rough out of the gate, but over the years firmware updates have handled many issues.

Would I buy it again? As tempting as the newer models are I think I’d go with the RFX.

I have a Pulse, but haven’t used it yet; just came late Friday. I haven’t checked it for accuracy, maybe I’ll do that now.

ETA: I just checked it against my Chef Alarm, which I consider the gold standard for accuracy; the Pulse matches to one decimal place. Both read 184.8° on a pot of hot water.

I also have two Temp Spikes, which are accurate, but the app is a mess. I’ve never had a problem with them dropping the signal, but if you do a search for customer satisfaction , there are a LOT of people with that issue.

phbern I'm curious about that one. That's a VERY affordable option! That version with FOUR probes is only $140! That is actually CHEAPER than a SINGLE Fireboard Pulse!

I'm really curious about their app and how that works, I'm going to have to go watch some videos on that one and learn more about it. Thanks for posting!

Honestly, my buddy bought their 4 probe wired Wifi/Bluetooth thermometer, and while I didn't play with it a bunch, what little I saw of it looked pretty decent. It wasn't as feature rich or ergonomic as the Fireboard app, but still didn't seem bad.

I need to dig into this a little bit deeper... thanks, again!

I love my Predictive Thermometer (Combustion Inc) so much I bought a second one (both Gen1). They are so much more than a thermometer I can get by without them. I did have on failure, but the customer service was excellent and the company got to the bottom of the failure and made a software change so it won't happen to others. I am told they are far more slender than the meater.

The PT has definitely upped my game. I call it my Magic Thermometer.

I won the Fireboard 2 Drive in the most recent giveaway (sing up for the pitmaster Club and you may win too). So I will have lots of temperature montitoring. The reason I chose that prize is the fan control. Sure, I had built something, but this will be a big step up.
