Sorry to hear about your issues with Guru. I've owned Guru products through the years and went to a Fireboard about 5 years ago. Funny thing now is that I don't use external fans or temp controllers anymore. None of the smokers I use now need it. I just don't use my WSM's anymore.
Eighteen years is a long runway, and it hurts watching something reliable unravel because the software stack can’t keep its pieces talking. When tools stop syncing cleanly, the whole experience collapses, no matter how good the hardware is. That’s why companies eventually hire devops engineers to make sure apps, firmware, and cloud services actually integrate instead of fighting each other. Between FireBoard and Signals, I’d lean toward whichever feels more cohesive out of the box—less babysitting, more cooking.
I love Fireboard and originally started by buying my first from Kickstarter. Upgraded to a FB2 Drive when that came out which was a good upgrade not needing the adapter for the fan. The dongle was a bit of a pain. Used it every long cook on the Mak and the WSCG. Added the pulse when it came out. I do use a bbq guru fan with it on the WSCG.
However, I’m sad to say I haven’t used it more than 2-3 times in past couple years. Ever since the Combustion Predictive Thermo came out, that’s my go to. The multiple sensors are what appeal to me, I don’t have to worry about hitting the perfect spot with the tip of the probe. They’re releasing a fan system very soon and I’m debating getting it.
I don’t think you can go wrong with a Fireboard though. When I bought my Mak, Yoder and LSG were in strong competition mostly because they have fireboard controllers.

Not sure about the Combustion Predictive Thermo. Gets mixed reviews here on The Pit. I bought one the week before the Hurricane Helene hit NC in 9/2024. Haven't used it yet. By the time we could get back into our home in 5/2025, there was too much cleanup to do to think about futzing with a new thermometer that had reliability issues. This Spring I'll get it out and see how it runs. It's had a few upgrades/iterations since I bought it though. Hope it's still supported.
I’ve had no problems with mine, even bought a second set when the WiFi upgrades came. The only minor issues I’ve had were it would disconnect occasionally very early on, but updates and using a WiFi booster have made that go away. I usually have to scrub the ceramic cap with a stainless scrubber after every smoke or it’s hard to get them to recharge, but as thoroughly as you clean stuff I’m certain won’t be an issue for you.

I concur re Combustion reliability issues. They replaced my probe after about 6 cooks. Now, today, planned to use it on a pork butt. No go. The module seems to have failed. Both units are charged up.
yakima , thanks for the additional information re: Combustion. I'm sure I've got a Gen 1 Combustion thermometer as well, judging from the date of purchase.
I hope you are satisfied with your new one and that it works for you as well as it has for glitchy .
fzxdoc. Received new display unit today. Order was confirmed Feb 3, they were waiting for a shipment. Am charging it up, have not downloaded updated app. Will advise in due course.
