I am using the Auber on a 22"Weber kettle. I closed off all of the bottom vent holes with aluminum tape. Drilled a 1" hole in the side of the kettle just below the coal grate, installed the blower on the food side of the grill. I had a piece of metal that I placed on the coal grate that directed the air flow to the coals on the other side of the pit.
It was BB ribs on this first try of the Auber. Used briquettes. Went with the minion since I was going with the 2-2-1.
I put 12 lit coals onto the unlit coals and soon found out that 12 was too many. The pit temp went to 245 and stayed there for too long. I removed 8 hot coals from the pit and watched the temp even out at 225.
For the next 5 hours the Auber kept the temp @ 225 +or- 2 deg. I was keeping track with a Maverick 732.
I am impressed with the control that the Auber has on the pit temp. Just to let you know it was on average 48 deg. here today in Chicago with light rain. Bravo to Auber! Great job.
