After many cooks with my BBQGuru Cloud, it developed some problem. Temperature probe went wonky and gave strange readings. No big deal, probes go bad. So I changed it. Same problem. I fiddled with the plug and thought it was fixed.....but then I scorched a rack of ribs.
So I now have a Fireboard. I can use the same fan. And it came with shiny new probes. Next week it will get used.
Have had the same issue with fire temp probe recently on my Fire Boss. Am interested in seeing how Fireboard algorithms work with the fan. Don't like wasting money so I'm keeping Fire Boss 500 for a while. I deal with electronics all day so I upgraded my fan to a much larger size to meet the large capacity of my custom smoker and brings my temp up much faster. Would like to know how your new Fireboard works out.
BBQGuru worked great. The failure is likely my fault, I did leave it outside. Out of the rain, but there is a lot of humidity here. If the jacks got dirt and/or corrosion in them that would do it. But so far I like the fireboard interface better .BBQGuru required a specific website to control it, FB uses a stand alone app. Apps are easier with a phone. Not a huge deal, but still a thing.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I've got an old BBQ Guru "Party Q" and like it as a control-only device, and monitor my cooks with a Thermoworks Smoke (with the Smoke Gateway). If the Party Q ever dies, I see a Fireboard in my future, as the BBQ Guru stuff just doesn't seem quite as polished and mobile friendly (website versus app).
I keep my BBQGuru controller along with my other thermometers and probes in a basket on the top shelf of the pantry. Maybe I should start leaving it outside so that I have to replace it sooner, haha...
BBQGuru works fantastically. I am not unhappy with the purchase at all. But I agree, FB is just more polished. For one, the LCD screen is a lot larger. Second, it has its own internal battery in case there is a power blip at 2 AM when I am asleep. Third the stand alone app.
