Fireboard Failures

    Fireboard Failures

    For the last several months, both my firebirds have quit running mid cook. My cooker is insulated so I haven’t lost any food but if it was in a kettle it could have been much worse.

    Several hours into the cook the fireboard drive just turns off. I check on it later and everything in the app is "off". I turn it back on in the app and everything works again, the fan turns on and temp goes back up. . Why it quits mid cook I do not know and neither does anyone at fireboard. I’ve sent logs and screen captures and they have no idea. I’m connected to both power and Wi-Fi when this happens so I can’t figure out what’s going on. There’s got to be a software bug or setting somewhere I would think.

    any ideas?

    Wow, this is a headscratcher.

    It's weird that the same thing happens with both Fireboards. Are you using the drive cable with both, or are both the newer model?

    When you run the Fireboard, do you run it only from the phone or do you also have it WiFi-ed to an iPad or your computer?

    And the simplest question, have you closed out the app, shut the phone down and restarted? Or deleted the app completely then reinstalled it?

    What did the Fireboard folks have you do?

      No power or Wi-Fi glitch. I don’t use the Bluetooth mode.
      I’ve also power cycled the app and hard reset both units, which is all the fireboard folks could come up with.

    Low Battery? Maybe going into a power-saving mode?
    Next thought, call customer service.

      I’ve never had mine stop like that, but I only use the Drive probably once or twice a month. The thing I see in your graphs is it’s stopping overnight, have you ever had it stop during the day? If not, do you have stop/start times on alerts where maybe there is a bug in the code connecting the drive to those times? Can you see App update history to see if maybe mobile updates to the app came on those nights?

        So... if it's both FBs I'd look for commonalities. First thought - something about the power, like a power spike or something that would cause issues?

          Never had this happen to either of my units. I know during our home remodel I wasn't able to have WiFi so it would use Bluetooth with my phone. Before I realized what was going on the session would reset if I didn't have my phone within x amount of feet from it.

          Maybe try resetting your modem/router? I too would uninstall/reinstall if you haven't already.

            Just a guess, mine will loose connection when I have an internet or Wi-Fi hiccup, when I also have the Bluetooth on this goes unnoticed. It’s pretty rare that I’m not glancing at the app on my phone while I’m using this iPad so I’m not sure what would happen if I did check it on for a few hours.

              Maybe but I would expect that if it was a wi fi hiccup, that the unit should keep on controlling while it waits for a connection, instead of turning off.
