I would recommend the Smokehouse chef. The unit is dishwasher safe and the parts are replaceable and you can upgrade the grinding plates / blade. I previously bought a cheaper brand that was metal. The grinding plates were not dishwasher safe. I also found the auger was making contact with the rifling in the barrel thus resulting in metal filings in the final product.

I was hoping the plastic would be ok, knowing metal was better (more money) now you show me one that's even more, but this looks like the one I'll get!

bardsleyque FWIW, I never had ANY issues with the plastic one.
But then I saw the metal one and wanted it...and then I saw it on sale and NEEDED it. LOL
If it weren’t for the sale, and incurable MCS (and it’s variations), I’d still have it. I don’t grind enough meat to justify a stand-alone.
