This is a #12 grinder, meaning 2 3/4" plates/throat size. .5HP DC motor. This ought to be pretty good, I'd think, unless you're doing a ton of grinding.
The Sausage Maker sells this 1HP Weston model for $159. I'm a bit skeptical of it, and when you read reviews on Amazon, I'm not sure it's all that heavy duty. Amazon reviews at 10% 1-star, which is well above my usual 'red flag' level of about 5-6% on certain items.
I can vouch for the heavier duty MEAT version, but not the smaller one. Although with my experience with the heavier one, I might get this smaller one for my house sometime. Too bad you just missed the sale. But the pricerange you're in is just about the cuttoff from the lighter weight stuff you see at commercial big box stores and Cabela's, Bass Pro, etc., to the 'commercial' sized models which is the next step up.
I have the cabelas one, at least I think it’s cabelas brand. I’ll have to check when I get home, I know I bought it at Cabelas, so it’s either Cabelas or LEM and it’s has worked great! I think the grinder is Cabelas and the stuffer is LEM. Both are great tools for the at home jobs.
