    Polyscience Smoking Gun Pro

I know this has been discussed before. I dragged mine out to play yesterday while cooking.
Figured I would bring it to light again.

My thought is that ‘ok cool’ for a smoked drink. Johnny Walker White tastes best with Oak, BTW. (Figures right?)
Anyone using this device for Cheeses? Charcuterie?
    What else?

Both my father-in-law and brother-in-law have something similar to that. It's fun to do and has a pretty cool looking affect. But after the smoke clears, any flavor benefits quickly dissipates. I make smoked ice for drinks (whiskeys and bloody Marys), and that has a much better tasting impact.

Hey - yeah, I bet the water picks up more smoke. I was giving it with the smoke for about 30 sec. I agree, taking the 1st sip exposes the wood smell and flavor. The rest was a spicy taste on the glass for me. More of a finish.

Great fun…and, of course, it adds a little something to many drinks. I use mine quite often. Cinnamon and habanero can also add some interesting flavours.

But…as a show piece, they’ve got something that REALLY ups the game.
The smoke Bubble Kit. Now THAT is a party trick!

Johnny Booth Oh yeah…a word of caution, if you use dried peppers (habanero, jalapeños, chile de árbol, doesn’t matter) do NOT breathe in the smoke just after smoking a cocktail. Kinda works like pepper spray. LOL

Trust me on this. It doesn’t stick around as long as pepper spray, but it’s also less than pleasant. You’ve been warned. ;-)

surfdog. Lol - thanks for that note. It makes sense, but I would not have thought about it. 😎

Johnny Booth Yeah, I didn’t think about it either. LOL Definitely self critiquing.

At Famous Dave's Texas BBQ, we ordered smoked Long Islands, so good. That was before the Covid

I have been looking around online and found some other cool uses I might try.
Smoked black pepper, paprika and other spices for oven cooks. Smoked chocolate chips, smoked soft cheeses like cream, cottage, and ricotta.

Did you make/modify that box, or did you find it somewhere?

That box was a quick and dirty DIY. Found it while cleaning out a closet. I have to say that I have not gotten very serious about it. I like it as a toy, and the smell is great b/c those wood chips are very strong.

I bought a cheapy cocktail smoker kit from Amazon a few weeks back, the kind with the wooden lid that sits on top of your drink and holds the tiny mesh cup of chips. It's useless. I tried everything. Even pre-smoked the glass, the shaker with the drink in it, and the drink after. Smoke smell in the house and in the glass, but none in the drink. I think I need the gun.

Attjack, what do you use, I seem to remember you said you have a cocktail smoker.

You aren’t picking up the smoke? I find the smoke does really good on the large ice block and seems to stay on that for a bit.

barelfly Nah. Plus I don't use ice cubes, I hate the dilution (I shake every drink with ice to chill). I gave my wife a taste test with the triple "smoked" old fashioned as described above and she confirmed my thoughts that the drink doesn't pick it up with the kit I have.

Huskee, not sure if it’s the tool or the wood chips, but this combo will leave smoke residue on the glass. Not sure that neat whiskey retains much smoke, but the taste stays on the rim, kinda like a spice.

Here are the chips I used, they are over 7-8 years old and still very pungent.
