Need A New Blender/Food Processor….Any Recommendations?

BLENDER: a lot of people here and elsewhere will highly recommend the Vitamix (all for very good reasons) As an alternative, consider the BlendTec blender of Youtube WILL IT BLEND fame. both of these blenders are regularly roadshow'd at Sam's Club/Costco, so if you have time to wait until those events occur, you may benefit from extra goodies in the package vs buying either of them outright.
SPICE GRINDER: consider a dedicated coffee-grinder style appliance specific for grinding spices. Kitchenaid has a combo spice/coffee grinder that has worked well for us. Has separate grinder "jars" to keep the one you'd use for coffee separate from the one you'd use for spices, to try to keep flavors separated. there's benefit in grinding spices in a smaller container rather than in a larger blender, especially if you're not trying to grind up a lot of whatever flavor you're looking for. I desperately want a BlendTec. I have never seen one in person let alone used one, but their marketing was a series of videos on YT called "Will it blend?" The cheesy music, lab coats, and absolute ridiculousness of the items they blended for fun just to see got me hooked! Lol. I have been known to rewatch those videos for hours.Last edited by RickyBobby; December 27, 2021, 02:20 PM.

> Weber Genesis EP-330
> Grilla Grills Original Grilla (OG) pellet smoker with Alpha/Connect
> Pit Barrel Cooker (gone to a new home)
> WeberQ 2000 (on "loan" to a relative (I'll never see it again))
> Old Smokey Electric (for chickens mostly - when it's too nasty out
to fiddle with a more capable cooker)
> Luhr Jensen Little Chief Electric - Top Loader circa 1990 (smoked fish & jerky)
> Thermoworks Smoke
> 3 Thermoworks Chef Alarms
> Thermoworks Thermapen One
> Thermoworks Thermapen Classic
> Thermoworks Thermopop
> Thermoworks IR-GUN-S
> Anova sous vide circulator
> Searzall torch
> BBQ Guru Rib Ring
> WÜSTHOF, Dalstrong, and Buck knives
> Paprika App on Mac and iOS
Oops ... I'll confess to a major brain fart in my earlier reply while only remembering two reasons that I use a food processor:
"1. Thin-sliced cabbage for sauerkraut. I can do the same with my chef's knife, but the FP is faster. If I use my knife, it's all that needs cleaning. If I use the FP, it AND the knife that I used for cutting cabbage down into chunks that fit into the FP both need cleaning.
2. Gyoza dough and filling in the FP (does great).
That's it. If my wife didn't also use it, probably wouldn't have one. Except for MCS ."
I'll also add #3. Grinding meat for burgers, brats, sausages, etc. I don't use a dedicated grinder ... just the regular blades in my FP. And it works great. DUH!

Ah, you took the MCS fun out of this! Seriously, you may want to consider a handheld immersion blender. Something like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Mueller-Aus...s%2C178&sr=8-3
We have a Cuisinart FP, which you can use to blend. However, I also have a handheld blender like the one I posted as a SS gift a few years ago. It works great. Mine came with a cup/bowl you put coarse lay chopped food into, like chilis reconstituted, and then blend away. Has multiple speeds and such.
Just a thought and it certainly saves space.Last edited by GolfGeezer; December 27, 2021, 03:10 PM.

Listen to me John. Do what 58limited references above, invest in a refurbished Vita-Mix. I’ve had one for about a year now. Thing came out of the box looking like brand new. It’s so powerful that I’ve rarely turned it up past 5 out of 10 on the dial and it will liquify anything you cook. If you paid attention to my Taco Chronicles recipes (remember those?) I mention blending dry peppers with mine a number of times. I still strain but rarely have to.
Run, don’t walk to your computer and order one now!!!

Been wanting a Blendtec for years, but haven’t been able to kill our blender yet!
My wife and I got a Ninja blender as a wedding gift 10 years ago. That one died within a year…thankfully it was under warranty. It’s replacement has been going strong ever since. It was used probably 1x per week for most of its years, but it’s seen daily use for the last two years and it’s rock solid.

Panhead John I just looked at the Vitamix homepage and they are advertising them for $199.00 (refurb). The red one is in stock:

Cooking gadgets
Weber Summit Charcoal Grill Center
Weber Summit Platinum D6
Blue Rhino Razor
Dyna-Glo XL Premium Dual Chamber
Camp Chef Somerset IV along with their Artisan Pizza Oven 90
Anova WiFi
Thermometers
Thermapen Mk4 - ThermaQ High Temp Kit - ThermaQ Meathead Kit - ThermaQ WiFi - ThermoWorks IR-GUN-S - ThermoWorks Signals & Billows - ThermoPop -ThermoWorks ProNeedle - ThermoWorks TimeStick Trio x2 - and a Christopher Kimball timer - NO, I do not work for ThermoWorks...I just like their products.
Other useful bits...
KitchenAid 7-qt Pro Line stand mixer
A Black & Decker food processor that I can't seem to murder
A couple of immersion blenders, one a "consumer" model & the other a "high end" Italian thing. Yes, the Italian one is a bit better, but only marginally
Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus 8-qt + accessories like egg-bite & egg holders
All-Clad pots & pans, along with some cast iron...everything from 7" Skookie pans to 8.5qt Dutch ovens
Weber GBS griddle, pizza stone, and wok
Knives range from Mercer to F. Dick to "You spent how much for one knife? One knife?!" LOL
Some of those have all the bells & whistles. O_o
Given how often I need/use a blender I decided to not go crazy the last time I purchased one. (Very uncharacteristic. LOL)
Anyway, a picked up a commercial bar blender relatively cheap. It has one switch…and does On or Pulse. I didn’t need "eleventeen" different settings & speeds… I simply needed it to blend, and that it does. A 3/4 HP one can probably be found for around a hundred bucks.

I just bought a kitchenaid blender and a kitchenaid processor for Christmas so the kids could put it under the tree. Blender seems top notch, haven't used the processor yet.

I've wanted a blender for a while for making sauces as well, and I had the same response to the recent post of having my MCS revved up. However, being of strong will, I resisted the temptation.
... For four days. I ordered a Vitamix 5200 this morning

I've had a couple of blenders, however, the Vitamix that we have now is by far superior and it has survived long enough that it might be close to paying for itself. In the summer time my wife enjoys slushies and milk shakes and we have burned up a couple of them. The Vitamix is very versatile for sure. Also it is pricey, however, there hasn't been anything that it can't blend without problem. The book that comes with it says it'll make soup. I've never tried, however, that's what it said. Good luck on your search.

Howdy, PJ! We have a Blendtec that we love. I'd put it up against a Vitamix any day and it's usually cheaper. We've had ours for two years and use it for everything from pureeing chilis to making hot soups in the blender. They ain't cheap, but you get what you pay for. Good luck on your decision.
