I also vote Anova. Mine is from amazon, I looked up the order. I bought in Aug 2016, the actual device page from that time isn't even available (just called Anova precision cooker at the time), so no idea what I paid. Worth every cent. Still going strong, never had a problem. It does what others have mentioned, that I like, meaning has thumb controls and also wifi. I normally just manually do everything, but sometimes I know I'll be hungry as soon as I get home, so I put frozen package in vat of ice water, and then turn on the Anova later when I know what time I'll arrive. Heats fast, and I've checked the temp periodically with thermometer so I know it's very accurate.

I have both. Joule at home and Anova up at camp. Can't go wrong with either. I love that the Joule has pre-set time and temp for cooking different things. It makes it so simple use. I click on pork chops it asks what temp and shows me pictures of doneness levels and suggest the favorite. Then it asks fresh or frozen and thickness. I select the appropriate choices and it calculates time until done. Simple.
When using the Anova I pull out my phone and look at the Joule App to get the time temp instructions. Otherwise I would have to google the time temp for whatever I am cooking. I trust Joule so I just use that as my source.
I like the phone app on the Joule with the built in programming. I always have my phone so I don't see the issue. It alerts me when it is done, give me time remaining, all accessible and controllable from wherever I am. The best possible scenario would be for the Joule to also have controls on the unit.
Bottom line you can't go wrong with either.

Second this. Had the Joule for the past 5 years or so and it just works. Sure sometimes I think it’d be nice to be able to set temp on the device but as Old Glory mentioned, the app is pretty handy and I think the last time my phone wasn’t in my pocket was 2002.

Troutman I am not a fan of the Anova app. All the recipes are from users not a proven formula. I'm sure the controls work fine but I really like the Joule App and the simplicity of setting up a cook. My Anova is a beast and heat the water much more quickly than the Joule and the controls are super simple to use. Can't go wrong with either one. For mee the best combo is the Joule App using the Anova machine. (I have the Pro model 1200 watts).

I have the Joule and love the app. I’ve not tried any other models though. Last I knew the Joule was slightly more powerful for heating up faster or larger amounts of water, but by now I’m guessing that Anova has equivalent models. As others have said an Instant pot “works” but then you’re limited to that form factor. The Joule and Anova allow you to heat up anything from a small pot to a large cooler depending on how much you’re cooking.
