    Sns Water Reservoir

How often do all of you clean your water reservoir? I noticed on my last cook the water was pretty nasty looking.

Are we suppose to? Mine always has a little charcoal residue etc in it.

When it dries after a cook, I will turn it upside down and tap it to get any charcoal out. That's all I do.

If you OCD about it a simple paint brush works as well.

Mine was pretty nasty. When it was cooking, the boiling water had an oily scum on it. I didn't know if that would contribute to a bad taste.
I rinsed it out real good with dish soap and scraped the inside with a putty knife.

I just scrape it out with a putty knife every so often. If there is a big chunk in it I will make sure that is out before filling but I don't worry too much about making sure it is spotless.

I wash off the SNS when I am cleaning my grates, and go over both with a stainless welding brush, with dish soap, followed by some steel wool or an SOS pad. I hose it all off and let it dry, then put it all back into the Performer for storage.

The SNS will never look like it did the day it arrived, but its clean enough to burn charcoal in, and make steam...

Now, my Drip 'N Griddle on the other hand, I've been able to keep that thing bright and shiny, as I hit it will steel wool after each cook. It gets smoked up pretty bad, but I've been able to get all but a little around the handles off.

Honestly, I've never cleaned mine. I guess I should.

I'm with you, I just rinse it off every once in a while. The rest of them are just OCD.

It has less bugs than my sous vide water so I don't bother.

How do you get the bugs in the package to vac seal?

Come on HouseHomey, use you head. He vacuum seals his SNS first, then puts it into the bath, isn't that obvious???

HouseHomey don't worry about that, just worry about the wife's complaints about the sous vide water "friends"

I didn't get a cleaning brush with my SnS so I don't clean it.

You mean there's a cleaning brush? Oh crap don't tell Dave or he'll fabricate one out of stainless and have it on the website pronto !!!

            #11
In my way of thinking, the SnS is just part of the charcoal grate, which I don't clean unless I forget to line it with foil and it gets really nasty. If there are any bits of food or whatever in there that could create some nasty smoke, I will be sure to get that out before firing it up. I like that I don't really have to even think about it for it to do its job.

I'm always envious of the guys who keep all of their stuff shiny and pretty, but not that envious. However, do crappy or half-assed construction work and I'll bristle a bit. Same with food.

I used to really sweat keeping my shiny new grates looking clean and shiny. Especially anything stainless. I am slowly starting to relax a bit.
