So, l just ordered the SnS, but now I'm wondering if I should also get the Vortex!? Reason is because I keep reading how nothing beats the Vortex for chicken wings! For those of you that have both (probably because the Vortex was out before the Slow n Sear), what's your opinion? Is the SnS just as good as the Vortex, or does it depend on what type meat is being cooked? Would you still buy both? Thanks.

I have both and like both. I use the SnS much more. You will find specific uses for each. The advantage of the SnS is it has a larger sear area. But the vortex is going to be great for a whole bird I'm sure. Gonna try this today.
oh and with a vortex it would be handy to have the grate with the removable center.

Weber Kettle -- 22.5" (In-Service Date June 2015)
Slow-n-Sear/Drip-n-Griddle/Grill Grates (In-Service Date March 2016)
Pit Boss 820 (Retired)
GMG Jim Bowie WiFi (In-Service Date April 2017)
Maverick ET-733
Fireboard
Home-brewer
I have the SnS only and I have been able to cook everything I wanted with it. I have looked at the Vortex and I think it will perform very well, enhancing my abilities on the kettle, but I'll have to wait until other MCS urges are satisfied.

I think you get a more even cook with The Vortex on wings. You can arrange them evenly all the way around The Vortex. Nice even heat on all of the wings. Then you can take them and sear over the center. Granted, you can also sear them on the SNS as well.

Weber Summit Kamado with SnS and Vortex.. Broil King Baron, Primo Oval Junior. Primo XL. Love grilling steaks, ribs, and chicken. Need to master smoked salmon. Absolutely love anything to do with baking bread. Favorite cool weather beer: Sam Adams Octoberfest Favorite warm weather beer: Yuengling Traditional Lager. All-time favorite drink: Single Malt Scotch
Both the SnS and Vortex are great tools. I have both, and the Vortex is my go-to for chicken parts.

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.

Now you've done it. What does this "toolbox" look like that's big enough to hold the Vortex, the Slow 'N Sear, and I assume a bunch of other BBQ tools?Originally posted by Mr. Bones View PostDifferent tools in my toolbox, which give me an incredible range of options, an' flexibility.

We probably all need one of these too.
