A Slow 'N Sear by any other name...

Many of you know, and some might not know, that I worked with Dave Parrish, the owner of the Slow 'N Sear and SnS Grills (and our former "Pit Boss" here), on the idea, invention, testing, naming, logo creation, marketing, etc of the Slow 'N Sear. In the early days Dave and I did everything just the two of us, with some limited help from a guy named Jon Solberg, whom some of you 'old timers' here might remember.

Anyway, once we had the general shape and such in physical prototype form, and we tested it through the roof and knew we had a hit on our hands, we then had to name this cool new device.

Here is the actual list of name ideas I typed up and emailed to Dave, I saved it and took a screenshot of the doc. I thought y'all would get a kick out of seeing this; some are cool, some silly, but really any name here theoretically could've been selected. I think we all know which name Dave liked best...

I do remember when that started. It's a great tool to have in a pitmaster's tool box IMO. I didn't realize Jon Solberg was involved at all though.

Yeah if I remember correctly he helped us make the initial CAD drawing to take to the manufacturer, as well as helped test the original prototypes that we had made.

I remember Jon Solberg, too. I guess I'm an old timer. lol. I wouldn't have guessed it.

I really liked my Slow n Sear.

Then I bought the Weber WSM and haven't used it since...

If you're like me you'll rotate in and out of either device as the months and years roll by

      Wow! I am SO glad I don't own a KettleQueer !!!

Yall definitely went with the best name in that list. Most of them don't highlight the multipurpose use, and steer you to thinking that it's either a bbq (slow) OR a searing device, not both.

To me, the SNS was a game changer for my kettle cooking. I don't use it as much as I used to, as I seem to be doing more cooking on devices other than my kettle, but I've given 2 as Christmas gifts the past 2 years in a row, to my son and to a friend that I knew had a kettle.

Be assured that had it been named the KettleQuer Amazon would now be inundated with overseas knockoffs named the KettleQueer. You saved a lot of people from embarrassment by not picking that suggestion. 🙂

Great name. I bought the SnS before I bought the Weber Kettle.

Can you make one for a Pellet grill? Not that my Traeger needs one. I am just asking.

No, I got it, I just unfortunately couldn't find how to reply in a way that made it obvious.

I forgot this nugget... Smoke 'N Sear was my initial preference, but that name, at least at the time, was already taken for something to do with pellets. It wasn't on this list since Dave & I had already discussed it when I made this list. I'd also initially tossed out the idea of DynaSear or DynaQ for its dynamic, flexible, capabilities. But Dave nixed those. My next fave was The Indirector.

How did you and Dave get together to develop the SNS? It's not like you were nextdoor neighbors anyway. Enquiring Pit Members want to know.
