Best Fire Resistant Grill Mat To Catch Hot Charcoal?

Can anybody recommend a fire-resistant grill mat to put down temporarily before adding hot lump to an existing fire? I'm looking to protect the patio surface from stray embers that hit the ground no matter how careful I am.

I havre one of these under all of my grills and smokers.

So pretty much, I have a patio of the damn things! But they work well!

That is what I've had to use on my wooden deck.

I got one of those and made the mistake of thinking I could set the chimney on top of it while the coals got to temp. Nope - burned a hole right through it.. It's not for that much heat over and extended time. It can take embers and a coal chunk here and there, though.

I just have pieces of indoor/outdoor carpet or walk off mats under mine. If they get too nasty or would possible get burned up, just replace them with more cheap stuff. Unless of course you are Mr. Fancy then you can use the Spinaker approach and have color coordinated ones that end up nasty and possibly burned up and have to be replaced anyway.

Just messin' with you Spin those are actually kind of cool !!

I use the same ones Spinaker linked to. They're cement board. They're also available at Home Depot.

I too use what Spinaker shared, but I started using these (especially under my Santa Maria grill): https://www.homedepot.com/p/James-Ha...0022/100183556

Oho! I like this - may use these for the new deck we're building, which will be the new home of my grill.

Good suggestions, guys; thanks. I can follow Spinnaker and put them under all my grills and smokers and just have to buy (1)!
