The big question I have regarding the Santa Maria accessory is does it have an effect on how the food tastes? If it provides a different flavor profile I'd give it serious consideration especially since I won't be the one buying it - it would be a birthday present.

I love my Santa Maria if the one I have sells I will be looking for another one down the road I'm sure. They are great to cook on and it's live fire cooking. Easy to go from sear to keep warm mode with just a couple turns of the handle. They are a great way to grill.

JeffJ if you consider wood fired cooking a different flavor profile from charcoal cooking then yes. I certainly do consider the distinct difference.

Thanks, Frozen Smoke . That was the key bit of information I was looking for.

You could probably turn it into a Santa Maria with a little ingenuity. It's a 31" pit.

I have to agree that cooking over a wood fire is going to have a different flavor profile from charcoal. I can certainly tell a difference smoking in offset with charcoal and wood chunks, versus burning oak logs.

This is a primary reason that my next rig will be a stick burner. Unfortunately, I'd have to add on to our patio for that and we don't have the money.

Since we're way off kettle accessories, I like these. https://grillsandcookers.com/collect...raten-campfire . You could put it over a kettle with some effort.

I think it looks super cool, but I can't imagine you can do any better using it than just creating a direct/indirect setup for free. So if you are doing it for fun, then go for it! If you are doing it for taste, not so much. Looks fun fore sure!

Hi, you can buy a full size Santa Maria Grill for $400 dollars. Check out Santa Maria Grill Outfitters in Santa Maria Ca. Their site will direct you to retailers including Costco.
