    SnS or SnS Plus?

Other than cost, if one is going to purchase a SnS, is there any reason NOT to get the Plus version? Is it all around better or are there some cons with the attached base in some situations vs the original version without it? Any other thoughts of one vs the other?

Get the plus. The grate keeps the coals from falling through.

The Plus's base plate requires more aggressive stirring to get ash to fall through to clean it out during a cook. But, it does a better job of holding onto small coals when stirring them to clear the ash. If you let the coals burn out completely and come back the next day to clean it, I find the base plate more of a (slight) pain to clean out all the ash. However, on the flip side if you snuff the coals out after a cook and tomorrow want to transfer those leftover partial coals somewhere, the base allows you to pick it all up and do so where it's completely impossible to do that with the classic. For what matters to me and how I cook I actually prefer the regular SnS over the Plus.

Just to clear the waters I prefer the plus. But the original is no slouch.

Just to muddy things up a little, I have no experience with either of them.

I put the plus on my wish list. I like the idea of the bottom grate. I don't have either yet, but I'd rather dump most of the mess in the ash bucket and then have less to clean in the grill.

I'm leanin' heavily t'wards that inclination. (Th' Plus)

                My thinkin'?

                Long cooks, needin' more coals?
                Shake, Rattle, n' Roll.
I'll contend with the ashes, after th' fact.

You can't really pick up the ash and move it, it will sift out like flour would and make a mess of your deck/patio/yard.. The grate helps when you stifle coals, and then want to move those coals later to another device or a chimney, etc.

I bought the Plus as it occurred to me that ABC knew what it was doing in creating an improvement over the original. Although I can't compare it to the original I can say that the Plus performs perfectly and I have little to no issue in either using it to cook or cleaning up afterwards. Love the Plus.

They both work the same. The plus makes it a little more stable and you can move it around more easily when it has charcoal in it. We've had several customers tell us they wish they'd gotten the plus. Never had one say they wish they hadn't.

Many thanks for all of the advice guys. Definitely some food for thought as I round up the Christmas wish list. Including re-upping on this expiring trial membership... you guys rock!

I wish you had continued with the add-on modification for the original! Although I understand that that one didn't work out. I have the original, and it does a fantastic job. I can't say I have a preference, because I have never used the SnS Plus. But I am am sure it is a fine product, since it came from ABC.
