Probe wire holes in Weber Kettle???

I just ordered a 22" Weber Kettle and an SNS to supplement my WSM. The WSM has a silicone plug (about 1") on the side for inserting probe wires that works perfectly.

I'm going to put a hole in the side of the new kettle for the insertion of the probes and am looking for a "seal" similar to the silicone one on the WSM. I don't want to just let the wires contact the inside of the hole itself because I use the Thermo Pro probes that are very fragile.

I can use a brass "nipple" from the hardware store with two nuts to secure it both inside and out. That obviously would work, but I'm looking for something similar to the ones (1" hole) that come with the newer models of the WSM.?

I found a "Weber parts" site, but there was no such critter listed there.

Does anyone have another idea that might be better than the "nipple" method?

    Thanks,

    John

I used a close nipple for my probes, but finding a plug for the size I used was difficult. I actually had to buy some silicon plugs that were too big and trim one with a knife. If I had it to do over, I'd use this. It comes with a heat resistant cover. I'd cut the cover across the center or put a slit in the center big enough for probes to pass through. Note that I'm not sure the curved probes would pass through this. Also, you will have to be careful with placement to make sure there is room to get to it and that the probes will not be close to hot coals.

Call Weber customer service 1-800-446-1071 and tell the rep you need a part. It'll probably cost more to ship than the part itself but they're usually glad to help.

I used a 1/2" Service entrance Water tight connector.

        http://www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-Se...0661/100170032.

Its got a rubber insert that will protect the cables from the metal edges. If you go this route you'll also need a 3/4-1/2" reducing washer and a 1/2" conduit locknut. All told, it'll be around $5.

Not sure if this is anything of interest to help you. http://www.stlbbqstore.com/thermomet...-grill-smoker/

All of these suggestions are probably more aesthetically pleasing than what I did, but f you want to go super simple you can just drill a hole and pop in a high temp grommet that you can pass your wires through. I believe I went 1/4", for about six bucks you can get a bag of ten of them from mcmaster carr. https://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/122/3859/=14xqbi8
