Last year 15 of us were selected to test and evaluate the Fireboard Ring for the Weber kettle. Just received an email from Fireboard which includes a link to a video where they explain why they are not releasing this product in the US. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_925jST_ak
Huskee Since Fireboard is now showing pics of the Ring and talking about it, and since there are videos of it being posted by overseas distributors, can we make our beta test topic visible to all members so they can see our test results?

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I was a beta tester. I did some straight up time/temp tests, and got a cast iron pan on the Kettle/Ring rig up to 700°. So it goes into kamado territory.
I did most of my cooks with the Big 4: briskets, ribs, pork butts, and chicken. In every respect, it behaved like the BGE, and in some ways I prefer it to the LBGE. For one, there’s more surface area. Two, it works best with briquets, which are cheaper than lump. Three, the fan and probe are integral to the unit, reducing the number of wires.
Also, and this is more a FB Drive advantage, but: I can set up the Drive on the Kettle using the ring, and use separate FB probes in the BGE, and monitor both pits and both proteins with a single device and app. I can use a separate fan/controller in the BGE if I want to, the drive doesn’t have to power both fans.
The only “problem” is MCS and “kettle creep”: where you have a Weber Kettle. Maybe even a Performer. Then you get a rotisserie, and a Santa Maria attachment, and the Vortex, and a Smokey Mountain conversion, and a plancha, and now a Ring, and all of a sudden you have $2500 in that Kettle!

The video linked above In the first post should be watched by every Executive Branch employee. It is straight forward, factual, and not obnoxiously political.
I am one of the testers as well and the ring has completely changed my "Kettle" cooking. The versatility of this device is outstanding. I agree with jlazar it would be nice if we opened up the beta test thread to the rest of the forum. Huskee
I was a beta tester as well and agree the thread would be nice for others to see all the different test subjects takes on it. I did use it once on my WSM 22 just to see if it would cross over well.
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
This sounds like such a cool device, albeit at a price higher than many kettles! Too bad it won't be sold in the US, where I think more people would be likely to buy it.
Patience Grasshopper!! I believe it will eventually be available to US consumers. As one of the Beta Testers I can tell all it is too good of a product to not be available for sale in such a large market as the US. The folks at FireBoard have invested much time and money in the Ring and will eventually get it into the domestic market.
Only similarity appears to be price. Fireboard ring seems to have a much stronger build and includes a ceramic diffuser. The Weber does not appear to allow for indirect cooking across the entire grill. Can't wait to see a Youtube video of this in actual use.

So what are the Customs rules now? Can a US citizen buy this rig in Canada and bring it back, for personal, noncommercial use? Is the former $800 exemption applicable to both commercial and personal items?
The de minimus rule was suspended by Executive Order in August, 2025. $800 rule no longer applies to any items unless it is specifically covered by the USMCA
