    Weber Low & Slow kit

Has anyone tried one of these?

As many know, I have a WSCG…but that’s currently living many miles from my GFs house. (And I don’t own a truck. LOL)

So I recently purchased a Weber Performer.
Anyway, the WSCG is indeed a great cooker…grill mode, terrific…smoker mode, also terrific. But now I’m trying to get my head around the kettle. Aside from being slightly smaller…the principles are more or less the same.

So I’m wondering what the best route to smoking might be. I absolutely KNOW that there are MANY SNS devotees here…but was curious about the above product as it looks to turn the kettle into a reasonable facsimile of the WSCG… Maybe? O_o

Obviously it’s relatively inexpensive…so I could just get one. But why waste 80 bucks if I don’t have to?

It looks pretty simple and basic for what it is, really. But then, it says "Weber" on the name, so....

Agree with DogFaced PonySoldier it looks simple and easy to use. Both of us have been in a test group for a new product from FireBoard that I believe will be a game changer for the kettle. I'm sure it is going to be more expensive than the Weber product but will allow so much more. From the latest I have heard we are looking at 6 weeks to 2 months for a release of the new product. Unfortunately we can not talk about the product other than to say that IMHO the wait will be worth it.

+1 on the new Fireboard product. Definitely worth the wait.

More expensive isn’t a game changer. If that were the case I would have stopped at two guitars. ;-)

I can't tell you where I read this, so I can't source it ........... but there's radiant heat from that diffuser because its too close to the cooking grate. That's what I read or heard, maybe in a YT video. So FWIW ............ but it does make sense. I can't speak from experience.

My problem with smoking on a Kettle was always getting the meats away from direct or radiant heat from the coals. I bought a 26" Kettle, with that in mind, and it did spread things out some.

See…that’s kinda the thing. On my WSCG, there’s a fair distance from the charcoal to the food grate…with a “dual-layer” diffuser in between. There’s not so much distance on the kettle.
I’ve thought about simply doing a snake method on the outside of something like the vortex (to support a pan/diffuser, but haven’t had the opportunity to try that yet.) Looking forward to seeing what the new product coming offers.

A way to circumvent that problem would be to lay down a couple spacers on that diffuser, like firebricks laid on their sides for about a 1” space, and then place a circular pan on top of the spacers. I actually do that on my WSCG, although the purpose is to serve as a drip pan that is a bit isolated from the direct heat. Interested to see what the upcoming FB product will be.

One of the most versatile, and least expensive accessories I have bought are the spacers from Ceramic Grill store.

surfdog if you need a truck, holla. I drive a 2017 Tacoma Xtra Cab. Long bed, with an adjustable guard thingy.

Alan Brice no, it’s this rail that slides back and forth that creates compartments, if you will, in the bed. It’s so cool!

FWIW, I smoke pork butts and ribs on my 22" Weber Master-Touch using just the snake method. Used the snake on that brisket I did back in December, too. It works very well, and I'd place my vote for saving the $80.
