Some character named ORMOZD over on Amazon just gave the SnS 2 stars because he thinks it's "SIGNIFICANTLY OVERPRICED." That's the whole review. No comments about how he likes it, if he's used it, etc. I'm heading over there tomorrow and leave a comment after I think about a polite way to word it. Some of you SnS fans might want to do the same.

Interesting statement this individual is making of him/herself. 'I willingly paid for this item, but now I'm mad that it's significantly overpriced.' Someone must've held a gun to their head eh?

Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
At first I thought it was a little over price until I got it and used it now I think the price is reasonable but I do think the XL is a little over price.

1987 Weber Kettle (Still going!)
2004 Cookshack Smokette (The original!)
2012 Weber Genesis (Wonderful for steaks and chops!)
2014 Pit Barrel Cooker (Lovin it!)
Thermoworks Thermapen
Thermoworks Mini Handheld Thermocouple & Meat Needle Probe
Various other wireless remote thermometers
Beer...Bud Light (Timeless)
Now now folks. I seem to remember the Smokenator being criticized as being too expensive for what it was. But in reality it was a great tool for turning the Weber Kettle into a smoker that worked better than what it was. A great invention by a gentleman who was willing to help others. Now we have the slow-n-sear as the next generation tool for taking the Weber to a new level. Everyone isn't going to see the value in what the slow-n-sear is just like they didn't see the value in what the Smokenator was.

And besides, when I see nothing but 5 star ratings on a product on Amazon, I doubt the validity of the ratings.Last edited by bep35; May 4, 2016, 06:40 PM.

Darrell I won't deny it's expensive, but I will try to explain. The SnS XL is made from 8 pounds of 304 Stainless Steel vs 5 pounds used to make the regular SnS. It's made in smaller quantities than the SnS so the cost of setup for a production run has a higher impact on per unit cost, and the base plate has to be hand welded to the main body of the SnS, which also adds cost. Speaking of base plate, that part is made from 10 gauge 304 stainless steel and is a whole additional production run.
But like I said, I agree it's expensive.

Yeah, but at least it could be an actual review like "This thing cost me a hundred bucks and it didn't even come with a power cord." Or..."not only is it practically impossible to get lit charcoal into that little slot but my steaks drop right through and fall onto the kitchen counter. Who designed this thing?" Or something along those lines. ðŸ˜ÂLast edited by Tim Clark; May 4, 2016, 07:51 PM.

Weber Summit Kamado with SnS and Vortex.. Broil King Baron, Primo Oval Junior. Primo XL. Love grilling steaks, ribs, and chicken. Need to master smoked salmon. Absolutely love anything to do with baking bread. Favorite cool weather beer: Sam Adams Octoberfest Favorite warm weather beer: Yuengling Traditional Lager. All-time favorite drink: Single Malt Scotch
That review kind of reminds me of some of the recipe sites I have seen. You see a recipe with a 5 star review, and the review goes "I made the following 73 changes to this recipe..." How the hell can you rate something if you don't first make it or use it in the intended fashion??? Grrrrrr....

Great presentation David Parrish ...ðŸ‘Â
I spent 40 years selling product. Some under priced to buy market share, my favorite😆, and some over priced to create value or to cover for inefficient manufacturing costs. My least favorite.😡
Justifying a higher price on an IMPROVED product has to be presented in a way that people instinctually say... OK, I get it.👠As you did with Darrell.👌
Not many high level Military guys are good salesmen. Not many humans are good salesmen.

Well, I just headed over to Amazon and left a reasonable comment for ORMOZD but then I saw a new one by DM that really IS nuts! He seems to have serious bugs to pick with just about everyone if you look at his reviews. Only thing he consistently likes is motorcycle helmet face shields. I tried to think of something helpful to say but I couldn't. Puts me in a bad mood first thing in the morning.

Some customers are better than others but they're all the life blood of your company. Dealing with irrational customers is not that difficult if you stay calm and let them do all of the talking.👌 If you listen intently they will usually tell you the cheapest way to solve their problem. Staying calm is the hard part.😡
I found that if you let a pissed off customer do ALL of the talking that when they were done... If you stayed silent and created an uncomfortable pause, they would start all over and go through it again, in a calmer more tenable way. Then you could calm them down and solve their problem.ðŸ¤â€Last edited by Breadhead; May 5, 2016, 08:10 AM.

Breadhead it was because of the Seven Habits that I set the goal of, "Having a working prototype of the Slow 'N Sear developed and in hand by April 15, 2015".

Yes... We think a lot alike. It costs lots of money to obtain a customer. Losing a customer because of poor execution or disrespect is criminal! When an unhappy customer makes another purchase you've won!Last edited by Breadhead; May 5, 2016, 02:30 PM.

This is why you were a good salesman and I couldn't do it if my life depended on it. Trouble is, it's a lot easier to deal with someone face to face than on the internet. Just looking at internet reviews over the last few years, you can tell when someone has a legitimate gripe and when someone just wants to rant because they can.
