    Test "Flight" On My SNS

Yeah, I know I'm behind the curve on this. I didn't know it existed until last week.
Got my SNS today and I'm doing a test run ...... no food.
Started it per instructions at 2:30 PM today; hers the log so far. In Northern IL it's 45 and windy. I'm cooking a small Butt tomorrow and will post.

    - 2:30 start, top vents WO, Bottom 1/2
    - 2:55 180 degrees, TP 2/3, BT 1/4
    - 3:17 225, TP 2/3, BT 1/4
    - 3:45 248, closed TP very slightly, BT 1/4
    - 4:20 259, TP closed very slightly once more, BT 1/4
-5:30 257, TP same, BT same
    - 6:30 255, TP same, BT same
    - 7:20 235, TP same, BT same

Looks like it's running out of "gas". I have not done anything ( lift lid, cleaned ash in 5 hrs). I will post my cook tomorrow.

You have got to close that top vent down more. The SnS makes your kettle run more efficient than what you're used to. I usually have the bottom vent 1/4 open and the top vent 1/4 to 1/3 open when I'm at 225 F. Weather and such has an affect so can't live by those settings, but they'll get you close.

      Thanks "Boss".
I just opened the cover, it seemed like there was a lot of fuel left, maybe a quarter. Had some semi consumed wood chucks still, stirred the paddles too. temp is at 228 now.

You bet. I bet you could have gone another 2 to 3 hours at 225F. Once you nail 225 F to 235 F you'll easily exceed 8 hours with Kingsford blue, and Jerod Broussard and I have gotten 15 hours using B&B. That stuff is super dense.

That looks about right to maintain 225 F. Once you overshoot though You'll have to tighten further to get temps to head down. Watch the water bottle video on my website. That technique works great!

Not at all disappointed. First time out, it held temps very well. I shot high on temps on purpose since I had no food in. I love the possibilities with this. Now I have two smokers if I need to for big cooks ( PBC and Kettle). The Weber and the SNS looks like it's going to be my overnight smoker.

I just broke down the grill for the night. After 6 hrs, I had easily 1/4 of the fuel left. Temp was still at 225.
