    Weber Low & Slow Kit

I just saw this in a recipe email I got from Weber this morning, and wasn't sure I had heard of it before. Anyone seen this in person? Price is $79.99.

Basically just a charcoal ring similar to what they have in the WSM, and a deflector that sits above it.

To be honest, I am surprised Weber never sold something like this before now. I don't need one - I'm happy with the way the SNS works, and have my SNS kamado as well which will burn much much longer and probably be better at indirect with its ceramic deflector. But this seems good for someone who wants the kamado style indirect on a 22" kettle...

It seems like there is an attempted work around to overcome for every what isn’t their strength.

I’m guessing there are a lot of people out there who have a Weber kettle that want to try smoking, but on a limited budget. This could be just what they want. I sometimes forget what I started with on my journey here.

I’ve seen that on their site, MCS is nibbling at my toes here recently. But didn’t that set up appear in the master touch premium with the hinged lid?

Ive also seen their version of the vortex. I’m not well versed in trademarks and copyright things, but seems like the vortex guy should’ve hired a better lawyer.

The SNS is the best direct/indirect setup I have use for a Weber kettle. This new gizmo reminds me of the ONLY drawback to a Bronco - I don't like switching it from the low / hanging positions and the grilling position to do a reverse sear.

I love the SnS bit this setup has a diffuser plate which frees up the entire grate. The SnS consumes nearly a third of the grate. Not a problem for me as I’m infected with MCS and capacity is not an issue. But I can see how this thing could be a game changer.

You would think this frees up the entire grate, but based on my kamado experience, anything that hangs out past the edges of the diffuser is exposed to much higher "direct" type heat that is coming up around the edges of the diffuser. Your indirect zone ends up being really just the area above the diffuser. Ends of ribs, brisket, etc that hang past the diffuser on the cooking grate get cooked a lot faster than everything else.

If you consider that fact, the diffuser diameter of 18.75 inches puts the indirect cooking area at 276 square inches. If you look at the full grate (22") area of 380 square inches, and assume the SNS takes 1/3 of that, you have 253 square inches indirect using the SNS. BUT with that 253 sq inches with the SNS, you can use the full 22" width for ribs or briskets, without worrying about the ends overcooking...

This is the reason I ended up getting a large drip pan to put on top of the diffuser in order to increase my indirect area on my kamado, when not using the SNS.

So the more I think about this, the more I think ON A KETTLE that the SNS gives you a larger (wider) usable indirect area for long items, compared to this diffuser system. Not to mention easy refueling or addition of wood chunks.

Agree 100%. I tried using a 15" pizza stone for smashburgers and while they cooked OK, The heat coming up from around it was brutal. Like a reverse vortex.

@jfmorris I got the new SNS I ordered, so I hope it warms up a bit so I can try it out.

Me too! My grills are kinda hard to get to right now as all the concrete and stairs outside my house are coated in a sheet of ice from sleet and freezing rain! Doors on my truck are iced shut too! I'll be making steaks on the stove top tonight...

I will stick with the snake method in my kettle. Nothing wrong with that. Although.......maybe this allows you too use the whole grate and not just one side of the grill.

I was thinking the same thing. I use and love the SNS. But if you needed a bit more grill space, seems like snake method would work just as well as this, maybe even a bit easier

$80 for a ring and a plate..... an 18 inch aluminum pizza pan is $17 on Amazon.

Now all it needs is a temperature control pellet feeder.
