At work I won a Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18 piece knife set, including a nice wooden block. Is it a good set? I do not know anything about knives, just starting to learn.

Thank you FireMan! That probably is what I should have been asking. I have a pair of Imperial knives, 1 chef and 1 something else, (told you I don't know much about knives
) Sounds like a good idea to keep them as a good start on having knives to cut stuff (for grilling and smoking, etc.)

I'm going to try and be practical for you. You have them, keep them. Learn how to use the Kitchen Steel, to hone (not sharpen - & learn the difference).
Honing your knives as you use them will cause you to 'feel' your knives, and enjoy using them more. I don't hone 'free-hand'. I plant the kitchen steel point-down on a cutting board, and hone with the steel 'fixed'. Honing with almost each use, should mean a knife lasts about a year before it needs sharpening.
I wouldn't worry about sharpening that set yourself. I would have a local grocery store sharpen them. Here in the Lou, Schnuck's does that free. If you hone your knives, you'll know when one or more needs to be sharpened. Go ahead and get that done from a butcher with a machine. That set doesn't need to be worried about - when a knife is used up, you got your $$ worth.
Congrats on the win! Enjoy them! and Happy Holidays.
P.S: - the vendor calls the Kitchen Steel 'Sharpening Steel'. It ain't. It's a honing bar. That should tell you something.

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
Go on Amazon and pick out a wheel style draw-through sharpener.
Use the hone every time you use the knife, just a couple strokes. Use the sharpener whenever you think the knife isn’t working the way you’re used to.
That should keep you fine and fit for years.

For a free set of knives, it's nice. Personally, I'm kind of picky about my knives. I have a nice wooden block that the wife and I got as part of a knife set for our wedding (we didn't register for anything because were both well into adulthood and merged 2 households into one and didn't need much of anything,) but I've long since parted with the knives, as they were practically junk. I prefer to buy a few very nice (but not ridiculously expensive) knives that serve the needs of my use. I have different knives for my chef's knife, bread knife, carving knife, steak knives... I buy them separately and still use the knife block to hold them.
Like others have said, hone your knives every time you use them and they'll last a lot longer.
This reminds me, I'm about due to take my knives for a sharpening.
Best chef's knife for under $100 in my book is this one, and it's even under $50:

Are Globals the ones that are a single piece with the knobby grips? I've longingly looked at those before, but I've never tried one.

I bought my mom & my sister the 10" version of that knife, and it's fine. I find the blade too wide and it's not well balanced. I got myself a Misen chef knife and I am in love. Very sharp, fits my hand beautifully and is very well balanced. I'm not sure you can beat it for $65.

The instructions say there is not a Boning Knife, I guess I should look for a boning knife, to add to the collection. (Says if I use one of the knives as a boning knife the warranty is void).
