    New toys…

So, I’ve kinda half wanted the F. Dick “Ajax” for a while…
Now, do I NEED one? Define “need.” But seriously, no. I don’t “need” one.
But that has never stopped me before. So finally I thought, “What the heck, let’s get one.” I like it. It has a bit more heft than the daily 9” chef knife…but it’s still a joy to use.
The sheath that I also ordered at the same time..? Meh. I’ll probably just get a regular edge guard like I use on most of my knives. The sheath is “cool” if one plans on wearing it. I don’t. And there’s nothing to prevent the knife from sliding out while in my horizontal knife bag. Well, that’s 16 dollars that I didn’t need to spend. C’est la vie.
The 1905 series all look great and function as expected. I also have the 1905 salmon/ham slicer.

    Moving on…
Again, whilst looking for something else (at least it was knife related this time LOL,) I stumbled across the Dalstrong version. The Crixus.
Since I already had the Ajax on its way…I thought, “Hmmm, look at that beasty 12” “hybrid.” They claim it’s a hybrid between a chef knife & a cleaver. “What the heck, let’s get one of those as well.” It’s a beast…but I really think it’s more of an oversized chef knife than a cleaver. I’m not convinced that blade could endure a lot of hacking. Nothing like any of my regular cleavers. FWIW, my go to is my F.Dick 7” (2lb) cleaver. A little thicker than a regular knife, but not as robust as my cleavers. Still, it does have a lot of heft to it…around 2lbs. It also came with a sheath. And much like the other Dalstrong “Gladiator” sheaths…I don’t care for it. It comes off way too easy. As long as it’s in my knife backpack, handle side up of course, it shouldn’t be a major issue. I think it will be great for something like slicing up a prime rib. It’s kind of a show stopper. LOL Click image for larger version

Pretty much my general outlook. I figure that if the bills are paid, and the other essentials are covered, why not? That’s what the extra is for.

And, I may or may not be great at making decisions between two similar things… “This is a really nice guitar. Hmmm, but this is also a really nice guitar.” Yeah, just going to save myself the headache and get them both. LOL

I’m thinking mini meat cleaver and full sized meat cleaver!

To a point, I agree…but that large one doesn’t have a blade quite like my regular cleavers. Not sure how it would stand up to full cleaver use.

Now, for something like slicing the prime rib that my brother makes every Xmas…perfect I’m sure.

Thanks to a secret Santa, I’ve actually got a Dalstrong Crixus:

… and it excels at cutting watermelon, breaking down acorn (and other sturdy) squash, etc. Highly recommended …

That “little guy” still has a 9” blade. The other one is just huge. O_o

I agree though, the F. Dick 1905 series do look spectacular. The first one I purchased was their salmon/ham slicer. Fortunately it fits into one of my knife bags because it’s almost 18’ long in total.
