Daalstrong Shogun Series 4 Piece Steak Knife Set

ItsAllGoneToTheDogs tempted me to look at adding some steak knives after reading the post of his new Dalstrong Steak Knives.

I don't need any, much less eight, but I could convince myself to get a set of 4.

If I stay with the Shogun series, the Dalstrong website lists a Shogun Series 4 Piece Steak Knife Set at $60 off.

Searching Amazon, what is listed as a Shogun series set, they are even less and not on sale.

The packaging is different and the specs not quite as clear. Are they the same knife? Some of the Amazon reviews are concerning. I was surprised a review mentioned they are made in China. I checked my current Dalstrong Shogun boxes and was disappointed to learn in VERY small print, they are made in China as well. The clever marketing had me assuming otherwise.

    Thanks

I was under the impression all of these Dalstrong knives were Made In China. I could be wrong, I have a few, but haven't really LOOKED.

Makes me think... I kinda wanna get a few more....

They look the same to me and it does show it's sold by the Dalstrong store... The knives are made in China so obviously there are lots of unbranded or rebranded that are the same knife or at least same design and possibly less quality metal but I've never seen knockoffs branded AS Dalstrong. The Dalstrong price hike comes from the way too nice packaging, the warranty, and excellent customer support.

I found when looking for the knives I wanted that some were cheaper on Dalstrongs site (still delivered by Amazon btw) and some were cheaper on Amazon. If you qualify to use GovX you can get a discount code for Dalstrongs website which may tip the source site back to them if both prices are equal before discount.

We were going to get this set honestly, but we needed 6 knives... didn't want 8 but well thats what ended up working out for us price wise.

Those Dalstrongs are beautiful knives! I like the fact they’re Damascus steel, should hold an edge longer than others. I’ve got a different brand of Damascus steel knives and love em!

I used the "Contact " form on the Dalstrong website and asked if there is a difference. I'll let you know what they say. Probably just packaging.

I broke down and ordered direct. The sale price is still $4.00 more than Amazon but I get the pretty blue box.

Yes. amazon can and will be full of imitation products.

Please do the research and buy from the original manufacturer.

those particular items were sold and shipped by Dalstrong though. Amazon, WalMart, Target, and even NewEgg these days are rough to shop on and accidently get a knock off if you don't pay careful attention. I hate it.

                Dang. That’s impressive.
How do you like the steak knives?
I recently bought a set of 4. Not Dalstrong. Another brand off of Amazon that was supposed to be good. Maybe they are knockoffs because they won’t hold an edge for nothing. So I am seriously looking for a really good set. I won’t mind paying for quality.

Most all of my knives are Dalstrong and I really like them.

Steve B I like the steak knives a lot. They don't seem to be quite as sharp as the other Dalstrong knives I own but still extremely sharp and the steel should hold its edge. They cut steak and other meats like butter. A big step up from our Henkels steak knives. The only thing I don't like about them is I had overlooked Dalstrong knives are made in China. That was a suprise.

Yes, they are made in China in Yangjiang. That city is renowned for their knife making. However, they are designed in Toronto and, at least for the Shogun series, the steel is sourced from Japan.
I had a conversation with a professional knife sharpener a while back and he said the Dalstrong knives are a good quality. Not the best in the world, but better than most out there.
