    Storing 4 or 5 knifes

I received my 4th Dalstrong knife today and want a better way of storing them.

We have a Henkels knife set and some Henkels Steak Knifes stored in a wood block on a countertop and I'm looking for a way to store the recent, more expensive Dalstrong Knifes I have picked up.

My wife isn't a big fan of adding more blocks and a magnet/wall system won't work with our wall tile.

I am considering a knife bag or roll and I would only need 4 of 5 pockets. The largest knife is the 10 inch Butcher Knife followed by an 8 inch Chef Knife, an 8 inch boning knife and a 3.5 inch paring knife. I could store the 10 inch honing rod in the bag. It is currently in the knife block where the kit honing rod was stored.

Possibly something like this I could put in a cabinet drawer? If the 10" knife would fit and there is a larger bag. I am open to other manufacturers or solutions.

    Thanks.

Dalstrong Paring Knife - 3.5 inch - Shogun Series ELITE

Dalstrong Honing Rod - 10 inch - Gladiator Series

Nice knife roll! Putting on the devils advocate hat…. Where would you store the knife roll? Cabinet space? Pantry space? I ask because I am jealous. Don’t have anyplace to store one and I want one. 🤩

SheilaAnn We would need to move things and reorganize but my preference would be in a drawer close to where they would be used. We added a lot of storage when we remodeled but imediatly filled it up.

I have a lot of kitchen knives. I enjoy using the correct knife for the task at hand. And I also have fun keeping them in razor sharp form. Many are delicate knives with Asian (15 degree) edges that can be damaged easily by banging against other knives or hard objects in a drawer.

I use two wall mounted magnetic racks. They fit in with my kitchen cabinets and wall colors. I made and installed both of the wall mounted racks. I added the plexiglass protection above the racks to protect the wall and cabinet from being damaged when grabbing a knife from the racks.

I store some knives in a drawer which can be bad for the edges if they bang together. I use slip-on plastic sheathes to protect the edges. I also store some knives in flat racks that sit in a drawer. And one vertical rack that sits on a counter and has a magnet to hold the steak knives on it. It sits against a wall and doesn't take up much space.

Pictures of all of these knife holders are below. I have some roll up knife holders. They don't get much use unless I am taking the knives traveling. Too much work to get them in and out of the roll. When I am working in the kitchen, I like to be able to reach for a knife with as little effort as possible. The knives I use the most are in the wall racks so I can spot and grab them quickly.

briano52 I like the magnatized wood block and looked at some. Not sure I can talk my wife into it, she doesn't like the storage block we have now. My knifes are heavy, I don't want to mess up our wall tile, but wonder if I could put something on the side of the refrigerator and easily remove and clean if we need to. Thanks.

The wall mount magnet needs to be screwed into something solid. Or, maybe attached by really strong two-sided tape, but I kinda doubt that would hold up over time. Each time you pull the knife off the magnetic bar, it places stress on the mount. The magnetic vertical mount, with the black steak knives, takes up very little space because it sits flush against the wall. It works fine for my black steak knives but maybe the magnet is not strong enough for bigger knives like the wall mounts hold.

I use a magnetic strip on my quartz backsplash; it would work on your tile, too. I attached the magnetic strip using auto body tape, the kind that holds on trim pieces and emblems.

Same thing with my utensils, to hold the hooks to the stone.

If you try this and don’t like it, it’s an easy reversal. Just slide some dental floss between the strip (or the backing on the hook) and the wall, and saw back and forth gently.

Mosca I don't think my wife will go for a magnetic strip on her tile wall but if that would work on the side of the refrigerator she might. The Dalstrong Chef and carving knifes are very heavy so it would need to have a strong magnet. Thanks.

I like the wall mounted magnetic bar. My mag bars are really strong, and the knives do not fall off. The mag bars I use (Sourced on Amazon) fit into screw slots/holes on the back side of the strip. You put the screws on the wall, carefully spaced to match the holes on the back of the bar, the bar covers the screws, so it is a clean and attractive mount.

Midway It would absolutely work on the side of the refrigerator. And the magnet is EXTREMELY strong. It takes force to remove a knife. I’ve displayed heavy cleavers there.

I use these for my traveling kit:

I’m sure there are newer versions that are currently available.

Yes, I use these same knife protectors for the knives that end up in my drawers. They work very well and are inexpensive. There are a lot of choices of similar products on Amazon where I got mine.

I found room in a new drawer we put in under the new Induction cooktop since it was much more shallow than the cooktop it replaced. It isn't quite deep enough to fit the 10" carving knife perfectly straight due to the electrical feeding the cooktop from below. Nice it is closer to where we typically use the knifes as well.

Nice that you got a "bonus" drawer with the new cooktop. Never enough drawers in the kitchen, especially close the work areas. You made good use of the new space.

A bit too long for the drawer but fits at a slight angle and I need to get a large cut of meat to test it out.

This knife is an absolute joy to use! I have one from a secret Santa. I just leave it in its box. It’s not in my knife roll or drawers.

SheilaAnn I had to try it tonight though it was wasted on Corned Beef that was cooked to perfection and I could have cut it with a butter knife. I still enjoyed it and can't wait for a nice brisket or other large cut of meat.
