My friend got another hella deal - this time on a SLICER!

Posted about my kick-ass new 12" automatic slicer (ok, not NEW, but new to ME). Still in love.

Then my friend got the 26" Weber grill, practically new condition for $50. Ugh, wow.

Well, now he just got a new slicer. He wasn't really LOOKING for one, but I actually found it, communicated with the seller AND drove an hour each way to pick it up and get it for him because it was JUST. TOO. AWESOME. to let go.

I was going to keep it myself and resell it if he didn't want it, or offer it up to someone here for a killer deal, but he decided at that price, he couldn't turn it down.

It's a Hobart 2812 - 12" blade, manual, not an automatic like mine.

Here's what pops up when you search for it:

As you can see, prices from $1150, $1300, up to $2400 even $2700!

This thing is a beast as well.

And the best part... I got it for him for...

    $150

Too bad for ya'll that he decided he wanted it! lol. One of ya'll woulda got a hella deal, prolly.

Anyways, I don't expect I'll ever see a deal like either of these in my lifetime, lol, so I'm glad I was able to snatch both of them up, one for me, one for him.

Where did you find them? Craigslist/ebay or something like that? I’m in need of a new slicer myself. Don’t think I want/need something of that caliber, but….. for the right price…… well, I don’t have to tell you.

    Lucky guy!
I have a consumer-level meat slicer (Rival), and like using it. However, I've started 'lusting' after something better. I need to watch FB and Craigslist more often.

In the past couple weeks there have been 3-4 similar Hobart units on the market in and around Austin for $200ish. When I was in the market a few years ago it was a much higher market pricing....argh. I wonder if this is related to the number of food oriented small businesses that have been taking a beating for the past 5 or so years.

Yeah I dunno. I've been watching for months here and the Hobart and Globe units are always MULTIPLES of this price, and most are 10", not 12". So I was shocked. Definitely have picked up 2 good deals lately that I'm not mad at. People mentioned they seem to be much cheaper in the bigger markets - ATL, DAL, etc., but not here for sure. Case in point - a similar Globe unit right now is $1k here.

Saw this Weber in a store right before Christmas. Not $50 but it was brand new. I didn't make the purchase, but someone will get a nice grill at a great price.

      Have fun!

I think you may have a new profession looming as a Professional Enabler.
