    My Cutco Knives

I got sold by the Cutco knife lady! They were having a sharpening event at the hotel where I was staying. Of course I HAD to wander in and check out the display! I ended up with this selection. My wife almost killed me until she used the vegetable knife and the cheese knife. Then (almost) all was forgiven. 😝
I really love the cleaver and the bread knife.

Their cheese knife is the best I have ever used.

Their spreader is incredibly handy. Wish I had 2 or 3 of them instead of only one.

Man, if I didn't check in here every 2 or 3 days my life would be much less pleasant!

Their steak knives are also the bomb.

Our Cutco knives are probably about 25 years old and get near daily usage. One of the best features is that your local rep will come at your convenience to sharpen them once or twice a year. Of course, you wind up being friends with the rep and they always have something new they want you to look at, but keeping them sharpened by a professional is great. Also the rep will evaluate and send in knives that need more extensive work or even replacement. We pay only a small shipping charge for that and I've had several knives and even the awesome kitchen shears replaced this way.

I’ve had Cutco knives since 1990. I’ll send mine in (or drop them off if I’m visiting family). They have given me new knives also recently instead of sharpening my old knives.

And yes, the kitchen shears are awesome!

We have their steak knives and love them. A couple of other random pieces that don't get much use just because we didn't have major needs to fill

I have the broad, flat utility knife with the serrated edge. That knife gets used daily for spreading jam, butter, etc. on bread, bagels, etc. Great knife.

My parents have Cutco - it’s the only set they have had that I know of, so pushing 40-45 years, I don’t know exactly when they got them.

              Very nice set you have!

If it’s that old do they still have the old school wooden handles. I believe sometime in the late 60s is when they switched to the resin handles. Growing up we had some wooden handle Cutco knives.

ssandy_561 - I know you are watching the game right now…which I have no idea how you are losing to the chargers….but… my parent’s steak knives are 47 years old at least. The others, my mom says have been purchased over time.

Love my Cutco. I have 20 different knives, 12 table knives and 3 pairs of their super shears. I might have a problem. 😆

Growing up I lived across from the factory where they are made in Olean, NY.

I also worked there for two summers back in the early 90s while I was off from college.

If you feel like getting something else from Cutco you can’t go wrong with their super shears. I use these almost daily.

I just took part in a demonstration of that cheese knife on Sunday! I was sold, until the saleswoman told me the price. For $110 I’ll use two hands and a chef’s knife, thank you. Maybe I can find one at a garage sale or estate sale somewhere. But, I was very impressed with it.

Very nice. I am guessing that set you back a bit, but they are well worth it

It's strange. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about Cutco knives. I have some too and they are great! Maybe part of it is that all the Cutco knife owners are left wondering whether or not they made the right decision spending that much on the knives? I know I did. But I still love the knives and the scissors...

If you read some of the cooking forums, especially ones with pro cooks. They tend to trash Cutco. I have had a set since college, and they have served me well.

Cutco is good. But wildly overpriced for the quality. Most Cutco owners are fiercely defensive of them, but that’s not because of their overall superiority. It’s because they paid so (too) much, because of the (overhyped) marketing, because they ARE far better than what they usually replace, and because they ARE good knives.

No one “upgrades” to a Cutco from a Shun or other high end knives.

I determine if I paid too much for an item based on how much I use it and like it.

This thread reminds me that I need to send my paring knife in for repair. They might replace it.
