I also own the spyderco but can't get the edge I can get with the DMT diamond stones. I'm not saying that the Spyderco is bad. I actually think it's just the way we learn and what comes naturally to us individually. I find I have much more control on a stone. The most important thing is to learn to sharpen your knives. It's part of the total experience.

Have a Spyderco too and also couldn't get a good edge until I got their diamond rods. Still the EdgePro is worlds better.

And that's the rods that I don't have. I was going to buy them to sharpen up a cheap, dull chefs knife that came with a set that my employer gave me. I should probably still by those diamond rods. I couldn't sharpen a very dull knife on the most coarse non diamond stones.
