Nice knife bar birthday gift from the kids!

Arrived today! The big 6-8 on Sunday.

There are two pieces, the bar and a metal plate; no mounting hardware. I mounted it with Gorilla tape, which I’ve never used before… once you’ve decided where it’s going, you are NOT going to make any adjustments.

The magnet is STRONG. Don’t get a finger trapped when installing it, it would be like getting it caught in a car door. I can’t pull it off of the metal plate, I would have to get a pry bar in there. The knives, not so hard; it’s easy leverage.

It’s simple, classic, and it fits. Oh; that’s also our new quartz countertop and backsplash.

Mostly for show. I only occasionally use the three on the left, and I rarely use the nakiri (vegetable cleaver) and santoku (carp-nosed one to its right). Everything can be done with the chef’s knife, the bread knife, the paring knives (they came as a pair, I just pick one), and the boning knife. I don’t see any advantage at all for the nakiri and santoku. They’re excellent knives, there’s just no need for them.

          Happy Birthday!

I would guess that to get it off the wall, you have to slide the magnet off the metal bar that is mounted to the wall, rather than try to pull it straight out. Then pry the bar off the wall.

I deal with super magnets in a product for my company, and use to have stacks of them around here. If they get stuck to each other, sliding is the only way to break them apart.

Man, when I attached the bar to the plate, I missed centering it by about an inch. I had to go get a hammer to move it that inch. Just to slide it.

I love those things. I have them in all kitchens. I plan to add more too. I'm using Ikea ones in the outdoor kitchen in Oregon which looks a lot like yours, Mosca. I am definitely at full capacity for my griddle tools and getting low on knife space on the other side. Meanwhile the indoor kitchen needs an additional strip as well.

It’s that two sided Gorilla tape. I explained that it was either tape or holes and screws….
