With all the focus on yesterday's cook being the first on my Smokey Joe and the first on my new deck, I neglected to mention that it was also the first cook for my new Fireboard 2*. I mainly used it to monitor the cooker temp, plus my now ubiquitous Channel 6 probe to monitor the outside temperature. It performed admirably, as expected/anticipated. I absolutely LOVE the mode where you get a huge temp display of one channel. Propped up on a block of pecan on the front table of my offset, I could easily read the temp from inside the house/garage. I also really like the rapid boot up and shut down. Late in the cook when, due to all the issues with the temperature, I had no idea how much longer they needed to cook, I stuck one of my new competition needle probes into the biggest rib to monitor the IT. Worked great. I was able to move it around within the meat of that single rib with no problem keeping it away from the bone. That's exactly why I wanted them. I can hardly wait to try it out running my blower and stoking my fire (with the Drive cable since I didn't buy the Drive model.)
*I DID use t to monitor the temp of my shut off oven with the light on while proofing my Sicilian pizza dough on Thursday, but that hardly counts 😁.
