I like Thermoworks, but I'll stick to my Fireboard. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but pretty meh for trying to create a bunch of hoopla over the reveal. Probably great for people who keep their smokers an acre away from the house or maybe competition guys.
I chose the Signals over the Fireboard, but I kind of agree with you here. Not sure I understand the need for this product. I guess if you're a competition cooker and you want to walk around a little bit and there's no Wi-Fi?
In today's connected world I just don't understand the need for it.
Huskee totally agree on preferring the standalone receiver but WiFi is nice when you need it.
When I saw Signals: "This would be perfect if it came with a receiver". When I saw Smoke X: "This would be perfect if it came with WiFi".
Andrrr EXACTLY! Offering one unit that could do both makes the most sense. The bill of materials can't be more than a dollar or two. Well worth what you have to otherwise spend with two additional SKU's in their finished goods inventory. Just have the receiver available as an add-on. Problem solved.
I do agree with Huskee if I didn't already have a FireBoard and was shopping this is the one I'd get. I'd prefer not to deal with the whole WiFi thing and having to be within a network. But now that I do have a FireBoard no need.
"Also I really do like my FireBoard".
Scotch: Current favorite- The Arran (anything by them), Glenmorangie 12yr Lasanta, sherry cask finished. The Balvenie Double Wood, also like Oban 18yr, and The Glenlivet Nadurra (Oloroso sherry cask finished) among others. Neat please.

It seems they have been watching what folks liked, loved, hated about all the other comparable thermometers out there and did their best to check all the boxes. Kudos to TWorks for this.
I see it's compatible with the Billows system, but I'm not seeing a PBC adapter in the accessories. Wasn't this on the way, or am I remembering something that was not really announced?
Guessing the WiFi/Bluetooth feature of the Signals, folks who want that will pay a premium for it. Run to he store, run to the office, still monitor the cook.

All-Clad pots & pans, along with some cast iron...everything from 7" Skookie pans to 8.5qt Dutch ovens
Weber GBS griddle, pizza stone, and wok
Knives range from Mercer to F. Dick to "You spent how much for one knife? One knife?!" LOL
Well, not the one I was hoping for... To be fair, the other product is still some ways out as I understand. ;-)
So I’ll wait...and kids will have to wait as well. LOL
Still, it looks pretty cool...especially if one doesn’t have solid WiFi, or simply wants the "regular" base unit/remote type setup.
Darn it .... I almost got you to talk. Tell you what - call your buddy and tell them that we both will be beta testers. I did that with the Anova and was able to get the unit before it actually hit market. The WiFi worked as advertised and once testing was over I actually never used the WiFi feature on it again. I just manually set it and forget it.

I probably won't buy one of these right away, currently happy with a Fireboard at the primary residence, and a Smoke at our Lake house. But it would definitely be my choice if I needed to replace my Smoke. The WiFi to my backyard is spotty, and I like being able to use the receiver on the Smoke. I think the key here is the 1.24 miles direct line of sight, but then it also talks about walls etc not being an issue. My house has aluminum siding, over stucco, and it really cuts down the WiFi signal, and it doesn't do the radio signal any favors either. The Smoke receiver works when I'm in my office, on the side of the house that the OG is on, but when I'm in the living room, if I move from one end of the couch to the other I can lose the signal. This should remedy that issue. The advantage of using the receiver instead of the WiFi is that I don't need to use my phone. The receiver has a lot better battery life than my phone.
Allow me to rephrase again what I was trying to express earlier, I think this looks like a fine addition to the product line. I also think it's a good idea to allow for that number of probes and fan control without requiring WiFi and/or Bluetooth, I'm just questioning that it was 'launch event' worthy versus just sending out the mass e-mail announcing the product was new and available. Everything is about showmanship and launch events these days.
Hey EVERYONE, turn into our super exiting event where we release a wait for it....THERMOMETER (that like previously mentioned looks like two of our other products had a love child).
Yep, ‘twas a bit anticlimactic.
Then again, it’s a solution to a problem that I don’t have. So there’s that.
I agree though, hardly seemed "launch" worthy. But then most people probably don’t get as exited about new cooking toys as we do, (there’s no "probably" about it LOL) so they must feel the need to get US excited...and then share the love with the rest of the world. For some people, this could be a huge upgrade. I’m just not in that group.
the (lack) of handheld unit on my signals is what I feel is missing for that.....I dont like the lack of volume on the phone alerts, when im not in the app, especially for overnight.....need to let my thoughts marinate a little.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Hmmm. Intriguing, but without Wifi, I don't think its a Fireboard killer. I do like that it has a dedicated remote, which is why I like my Smoke better than the Signals.
I missed that the Smoke X has no WiFi and Thermoworks has no plans for a Smoke type Bridge adapter. Like the extended range, no WiFi at all, not so much.

Nah, they have those regularly... At least for many of their products. I’m forever getting emails with SOMETHING on sale. LOL
That said, I did take advantage of that Signals sale...and don’t see replacing that with this one. Like I said above, it’s a solution to a problem I don’t have.
Now the next one to hit the market...I might be all over that one. ;-)

I might be interested when my XR-50 dies and my Smoke dies. Of course by that time who knows what options there will be. I do like that the Smoke X doesn't use an app. I gave up on using my Smoke Gateway some time ago because of app related problems...guess I need to sell the Gateway as it has been in a drawer for many months.
For a long time my gateway was very stable. Then a couple of things happened. I moved, different wi-fi. Outside signal seemed questionable, so I added an extender, and put it on the name/password from my original router, which was at our other house. Then, Theroworks put out an upgrade that seemed to further screw things up. Another update seemed to finally clear it up, but then my extender died. I deleted my settings before I realized it was the extender, not the gateway. Then winter came.
